Stories of Kindness from Around the World

When In Trouble ... Give!

--by hasifa, posted Jul 22, 2011

Today was the day that I paid my bills. I was feeling a little under the weather financially and worrying myself about it. I was praying and thinking about the problem when, just like that, I got the solution.

I’m a firm believer in the concept of “a blessing given is a blessing received.” So I went to the grocery store to do an act of kindness.  Since I wanted to do this act anonymously, I couldn't figure out the right person for a long time.   Finally, I went in line behind the person that I wanted to pay it forward to. When the cashier rang her items up I handed my debit card over and asked the cashier to charge it on me. The lady in line was confused at first, but I explained to her the whole concept of paying it forward and even told her about HelpOthers.org. She was grateful and almost tearful as she thanked me.

Now, I was broke when I walked into that store, but I came out a rich woman. My spirit felt lifted, and no longer was I worried about my finances because, as a little girl, I quickly learned that no matter how bad I have it, there is always someone who has it worse.

I was glad to share the little that I did have left.

This reminds me of the story in the christian bible about the woman with two coins. It was all she had, but she paid it forward anyhow! She was so blessed as a result - as i pray that you will be!
