Stories of Kindness from Around the World

To Doxie, With Love And Gratitude

--by erinvictoria, posted Aug 2, 2011

I met the most amazing person a few years ago. She has a wonderfuloutlook on life and she believes in the city of Detroit, even though many others have given up on.

My friend started an organization called Burners Without Borders and she focuses her efforts on helping the homeless in Detroit and the surrounding areas.

Every winter my husband and I help her with the Back-Pack Project. We fill back-packs with canned food, socks, gloves, hats, water, granola bars, a blanket. etc., and we give them to homeless people that we see on the streets.

People warn me that I could get hurt doing this but I don't feel in danger. I feel that these people are grateful and surprised that anyone cares. I am not reckless about it, I use common sense, but feel safe doing it that way.

Doing this simple thing for people has changed my life. I am not rich but this makes my soul feel rich! I feel blessed to be able to help people that most folk don't think twice about.

Meeting Doxie and seeing the way she lives her life has changed my life in such a positive way. I hope that as my personal journey in kindness evolves I will help other people see the positive things in the world the way Doxie helped my husband and I.

I just wanted to thank a friend.

This weekend she experienced a random act of violence. I am angry about it but she explained that she didn't want me to be angry, that if I was angry it only spread the negative feeling and negative energy. Somehow this violent act against her made her appreciate her life more. Can you imagine?

I have spent 24 hours thinking about it. I am not as mad as I was yesterday, so I have grown some but I am still very far from where she is emotionally. Maybe I'll never see things the way she does but in the mean time I want to thank her for her positive energy, her selflesness and her faith in humanity.

You have taught me a lot my friend, I love who you are and all that you do. Thank you for teaching me.

Thank you for your kind words and for the courage to trust your intuition, for your kindness to help others, your bravery to step outside of your comfort zone and the love to do something for someone who do know and do so without judgement.

I am so happy our pathes have crossed, may they do so again very soon!

When i wrote this story i was angry at whoever that was that tried to hurt you, and your response to me to not be angry, that it just put more negative energy in the world was life changing. I get it now. I didn't get it last august when i wrote that story. I'm so surprised that you read it. This website has been a big part of my life, although lately i've been so busy that i haven't done enough. This proves to me that i need to continue and work harder here. I'm still a little in shock that someone sent this to you. It's a small world after all. And we all need to be kind, reach out and help each other. I do beelieve doxie, and i'll bee well. You too, ok? Take care of you too!

I guess these souls can't take their lives and happiness for granted ... That's probably what makes them apart from others ... God bless you all ... God bless Detroit with a lot more kindness ...
