Stories of Kindness from Around the World

Broken Eggs And Helping Hands

--by sunnyalema, posted Sep 13, 2011

My friend Zewdu and I live in Addis Ababa in Ethiopia. Just recently we had been talking about setting up some kind of charity to help street children and elderly people.

Before we even got started Zewdu phoned me. He had seen a woman and a small child selling eggs by the roadside to try and make some money. Then the woman seemed to have an epileptic fit!

She fell down hard, smashing her egs and dropping the cups of salt and other ingredients she was selling. Zewdu ran over to her, made her safe and cleaned her up. Then he appealed to the people in a nearby cafe for help.

The people eating at a nearby restaurant collected 189 birr (about 11 dollars) to give to the lady, which more than made up for her smashed eggs.

Zewdu was so happy to remind me of our project - and tell me he had already started!

Isn't it nice to help?

Tsehaye
