Stories of Kindness from Around the World

Postcards From Half Way Around The World

--by wayfarer, posted Nov 20, 2011

A new Facebook friend referred to the time before his family went through an emotional earthquake. I asked what he meant and it turned out his son had left home and, almost straight away, ended up in jail!

Well, I know what that's like. So, I asked if I could send his son something. He said a postcard would be good.

Now I live in Scotland and this young man is incarcerated in California. So, I thought if I sent him some postcards with Scottish scenes on them they might brighten his cell wall.

One of them was a montage of Scottish castles. On the back I wrote that his dad loved him very much and was looking forward to better days ahead.

The other was a picture of the sun setting behind an island. Now you can see that island from the town where I bought the postcards. So, I paid a visit to the sea-front just so I could write on the card that I looked at the island in the picture and said a prayer for him.

I posted them off earlier today. Two postcards plus postage one third of the way around the world came to about £1.65, or just over two dollars. Isn't that an incredibly cheap way to brighten someone's day?

I hope he likes them. I hope he puts them up on his cell wall. I pray he and his family do get to enjoy those better days ahead!

I am sure you have warmed the hearts of his whole family by being kind and not judgmental ... Thank you so much Wayfarer, blessings, Bluxess.

I was able to see his smile, holding the postcard in hand and for a moment he was able to escape the prison walls because of your kindness. Thanks for this story as it teaches us all to reach out beyond a simple task. You inspire me to do more goodness. Thanks
