Stories of Kindness from Around the World

A Time for Kindness at KFC

--by stars24, posted Jan 4, 2012
Last summer, I was visiting my Dad in Texas.  One particular day, since he had already had lunch, he told me to go get something to eat.

I ventured out, found a KFC and got something warm at a good price.

While I was there enjoying my lunch a young man with a bottle of window spray, a squeegee and a backpack arrived. He must have known the people there because he waved, showed his water bottle, and filled it up.

I was wondering about him as he turned and smiled at me. He came over and asked if he could clean the windows of my van. At first I said "No" but then I had second thoughts. I knew he could use a tip so I told him it would be a good idea.

I finished my meal and got to the van as the young man was finishing with the van. He told me about himself and his family, that he didn't have work and was hungry.

I imagined his family was hungry too.

I took out what I had left in my wallet, about $15.00, and gave it to him. He was only 23 years old and doing his best. I was struck by his sincere gratitude and big smile. He bowed and made his way into the KFC to get a bite to eat.

I couldn't help but pray for him and his family as I drove away.

That was very kind of you. Most people would say "no" and leave it at that, and maybe say or think some unkind things about the poor man. Thank you for reaching out to a fellow beloved creation of God.
