Stories of Kindness from Around the World

The Family On The Ferry

--by islandsylvi, posted Feb 24, 2012

I grew up with my mother's husband, unaware that he was not my biological father. When I see a loving family together it touches my heart.

The other day I was speaking to the family in the older camper van parked next to me on the ferry. The mother said they were taking the short ride to the other side of the inlet to go camping for their vacation. This sincere and open woman mentioned how the high price of gas and other expenses had made affording any kind of holiday at all very difficult.

There was a fifty dollar bill in my purse that I could do without, so I placed it in her hand and asked her to put it into their vacation fund. She and her husband and their daughter were surprised and touched. So was I.

My blessing was to spend a few moments talking with them and be included in the gentleness of their spirits. This small family brought to my heart a warm and healing appreciation for the love and closeness they shared.
