Stories of Kindness from Around the World

On The Subway

--by Karver, posted Mar 21, 2012

Every morning I take the subway to work. Usually I am still tired and would love to sit. No one ever offers their seat, which is okay.

I see advertisements for random acts of kindness on the subway and they touch my heart, but on several occasions I have seen pregnant ladies get on and no one offer them their seat.

Today I got on and a seat was available! So, I sat down. At the next stop a gentleman with a walking disability got on and to my surprise no one moved, so I stood up and offered him my seat. He was grateful.

As we approached his station he tried to get off but people would not move, even after he said excuse me. So I pushed my way through the crowd and tried to help him off the train. But people just didn't seem to care and even with my help he missed his stop. I felt terrible about it - but he was just so grateful that someone actually went out of their way to help him! He got off at the next stop with a smile on his face I will never forget!

I want to say thanks to the people who posted those adverts for random acts of kindness, for reminding me that one small gesture can go a long way.

However, in your case, you showed your commitment to kindness ... In the struggle, all that really mattered was the effort you put in ... I am sure the elderly person walked back with a sweet smile ... Thanks for being you, Immense Blessings, Bluxess.

I hope there were others who noticed what you tried to do to help, and will follow your good example. I like the random acts of kindness signs, too. They are a good reminder for all of us readers. Bless you for your kindness!
