Stories of Kindness from Around the World

Hooked On HelpOthers

Okay, I have a confession to make - and it's all the fault of you guys on this site!

I was on a flight earlier this week. It was a business trip so I was flying alone. I was last on the plane and when I got to my seat a mother was in the row with two kids, one of whom was in my seat. She asked if it was okay and of course it was okay! So I ended up sitting in another row in the aisle seat instead of my selected window seat, but it would have been a bad person who asked the kid to sit alone while I sat with his brother and mother!

So I ended up sitting behind another kid and, I am guessing, his father. All was good and the flight passed without incident.

When we landed the kid in front of me was fast asleep. He was out for the count and the father was trying to lift him. Without thinking I offered to carry the father's bag if he wished to carry his son off the plane.

I promise you I made this offer without thinking. My girlfriend does not believe that bit, but I swear I had no alternative motive. Ha ha!

However, now we come to my confession. The father politely declined my offer, thanked me, and we parted. But, as I walked away I thought to myself, "Shame! That would have made a nice story for HelpOthers!" And I felt just a little cheated.

Terrible, I know! I had to try hard not to laugh out loud at that point, because I realised I was addicted to this website and these stories!

You made two kind gestures (giving up your seat and then offering to help the father of the sleeping child). You in good company with those of us who also enjoy this website. Thanks for sharing!

But I do say that my friend has Inspired me by.....and then tell the story :0) I thinks it's good that you tell he declined your offer, because that does happen, but it still feels good to know you observed and were willing to help if it was needed. I'm sure you felt good that you gave up your seat and were able to tell us that...especially a WINDOW SEAT...good gravy! are you mad man...LOL...just teasing...that's what it's about...helping others and knowing you did the right thing. THanks for the inspiration. :0) ~AUrelia
Bluebell wrote: I agree with Aurelia, no cheating, there so many opportunities to be kind, to help others and also to get into funny or akward situations that you don't really need to cheat. About the addiction, I think there should be a warning on the site saying "use HO as much as you can but be aware, it's a life long addiction" I great one I must say. Keep on the good work and no cheating lol. Love and Light and a Thousand Smiles, Bluebell

MakeSomeoneSmile wrote: The fact that you offered is the great part of the story. A kindness offered is what matters. Received is nice too but doesn't change the fact that you extended a branch of kindness!

Keep spreading kindness or at least trying and no cheating! :) What you choose to do is what matters, not the results. They are just a nice bonus we get to have sometimes too! :)
PaddyD wrote: Does it count as cheating if I lurk outside supermarkets waiting for old ladies to help with their shopping hahahahaha.....only joking, I am not that bad...yet!!!!!
I agree the site should have a warning hahahaha
