Stories of Kindness from Around the World

Be Not A Giver Only

--by denisemj, posted Sep 12, 2012

Today I decided to bless June who is 90 years old and part of the Senior Rides program.

In the early years I was able to drive many seniors to their appointments and June was one of them. She lives with her family, but is so lonely! It's amazing that you can be surrounded by people and still be lonely.

Often, when calling in her ride requests for the month, she would say, "I want to take you to lunch, dear. When you have the time." I would say, "Okay," but not make an effort to receive the blessing.

For months, she's waited patiently for me to call about lunch plans - and now I have! She is so excited about it!

I have realized that blocking or stoping other people's acts of kindness is unhealthy. Someone said it can turn to pride. Ouch! Don't want that.

One of my goals for this year is to be a "receiver" as well as a "giver." To be thankful that someone thought of me.

I have struggled a little, but God is really helping me to do better each day.

I think all of us are guilty of picking and choosing who we want to receive kindness from.
Thanks for bringing it to my attention!!

I have experimented on this and just loved the fact that I deserve love and happiness as much as giving to others ... I am sure you gonna enjoy this experiment ;-) Immense Blessings, Bluxess.
