Stories of Kindness from Around the World

My Friends Are My Family

--by gkrb, posted Jan 24, 2013

I went into the hospital for surgery, but things got complicated. I ended up losing a lot of blood and staying in the hospital for longer than we expected.

I was overwhelmed by the amount of help we received from our friends! Some of them took care of our kids, one made food for my husband who was taking care of me in the hospital, and another of my friends stayed with me so long the nurse thought that she was my sister!

When I got home one of my friends brought so much food and two nightgowns for me to wear. My colleague dropped off a chocolate cake and two of my colleagues brought in take-out food for lunch on a work day!

Throughout my first six weeks of recovery various friends came in, cooked food for me and my family and even swept and mopped my floors.

None of these people live very close to my house but they drove so many miles to help us!

I will always be indebted to these friends and never again will I say that I have no family in USA. My friends are my family!
