Stories of Kindness from Around the World

Facing My Fear For A Friend

--by AURELIA, posted Mar 31, 2013

I went-sight seeing recently with a friend from another state. I have recently moved to South Carolina so many of the sights were new to me as well.

We went to a light-house. Inside there was a circular open stair-case that spiraled up nine stories high! I am afraid of heights, so I asked the worker if I could peek inside before committing to climb up.

Well! I almost fainted at the sight! But when I look at my friend's face I could tell he really wanted to go up. I couldn't let him go alone. That wouldn't have been much fun.

So ... I slowly started climbing up, stopping at each landing and telling myself I could do it.

Finally we reached the very top and my friend took lots of wonderful photos of the ocean and surrounding landscape from way up high!

He was smiling and that made my day! I faced my fear for a friend and I am happy that I did.

The fact that you did shows your care for your friend and the opportunity you saw to spend time with him. Thank you for thinking of him where many of us would turn away because of the fear inside of us, and following the path in your heart even if it meant being afraid :)
