Stories of Kindness from Around the World

Kindness Tuesdays

--by kidzfirst, posted Jun 3, 2013
Every Tuesday, my daughters have two hours of softball practice.  This is when I head around the corner to the library and work on my weekly class newsletter, grade papers and visit HelpOthoers.
I also do acts of kindness.  I have put homemade smile cards in library books and also left money with a 'please enjoy this random act of kindness' note at the reference desk to pay someone's late fines.

Tonight, I attached a homemade smile card and Random Acts of Kindness (RAK) card to a small bag of Lindor chocolates.  As I walked into the library, I headed to my usual area near the reference desk and placed the bag on a table.  I sat in a comfy chair near the table and did some work.

It was so interesting how quickly the library staff noticed!
I heard at least four different workers say something like, "Hey, did you see that?" as they pointed to the chocolate.  A magazine display blocked my view a bit, but I would hear whispers.  The reference worker who I had previously given the money to pay fines was there tonight working.  My thought was that she noticed me and the familiar blue homemade RAK card and was whispering to explain what I had done previously.

For forty-five minutes, I would type and look up.
It was interesting to watch as people slowed to read the card, but kept going.  I think many felt uncomfortable taking it because it was out in the open.  I figured it might take some time, and then I dove into grading papers.

At the end of an hour and half, I packed up to get the girls.  As I glanced up, I noticed the chocolate was gone!  How did I possibly miss someone taking it?!

Then I was left wondering - man or woman, young or old,  I'll never know. But I do hope they enjoyed it, and I'm so glad they took it.
As I usually do, I visited briefly with the softball moms at the end of practice to recap my kindness acts for the week.  I shared the exciting news about my kindness article and told them about the library acts of kindness.

I've now come to think of softball night as Kindness Tuesday.  :)

The good thing is that humans aren't wired to stay in such a state. Humans hope, even in the darkest circumstances. For those who were uncomfortable, a seed has been planted!

Maybe tomorrow you will do another tuesday kindness and share with us (((( ))))
