Stories of Kindness from Around the World

Seeing A Handful Of Pennies

--by Jeniffer, posted May 2, 2007

While getting a couple of things at a local gas station, I noticed a girl walk in and pay for her gas. She caught my attention with her very very green hair. I remembered 10 years ago when I dyed my hair purple ... and loved it!!

She apologized for the cashier having to count her change as she put down a handful of pennies and a couple of nickels. She said "Believe it or not, this is suppost to get me home" At that time I was getting my change back from my purchase ($2.00) and not having anything else to give her, I gave her my last two dollars, knowing I wouldn't need them. Plus I had a full tank of gas ... and I had been where she was. She looked at me with such a surprised look on her face. She thanked me and you could tell that this sort of thing did not happen to her often. I told her it was no problem but she had to pay it forward and do something nice for someone she didn't know soon. She said she definitely would.

I walked out feeling happy that I took something that I really didn't need and helped someone else with it. Its the little things in life that make others feel special. And they are so easy to do!!

(I will soon be getting my first batch of smile cards!!)

My way is to give money for icecream in our local bread and butter shop.

However I have been fortunate enough to talk to those who do, and many have rings in their noses, and belly buttons, and a tatoo or two, maybe even 10. My family does not understand my attraction to those who appear different on the outside. I have made it a habbit of looking for pennies and always think they are from heaven. I keep them in my car and always have a few to give, it gives me the opportunity to talk to those who appear different and it has been a blessing to me, almost like taking a course in college without the tution.

I did it very casually gave him a ten gas was so outrges, I could see he was going to work. So why not as I walked away I could feel him bewildered as if he won the lottery. You know I don't have a lot of money but I would bet it was the best ten buck I had spent in months as far as self gatification. I just got re-rewarded..whatelse does that. Lets do more...K

I think that was so kind of you to give your money. More people should do such acts of kindness. You helped that young lady on her way. A good deed on your part.
