Stories of Kindness from Around the World

Kindness Duty Calls

--by Aurelia, posted Jul 13, 2007

Our neighbors are away on vacation.  We were asked to  pick up their mail and newspaper while they were traveling. We were happy to help  them out.

While they were away, it also happened to be garbage pick up day. I was not asked to wheel down their garbage can, but knew it would be a nice thing to so that they wouln't have stinky smelling cans to greet them when they returned (the garbage would have been there for almost 2 weeks if I didn't put it to the curb side).  I also noticed their flowers looking a little thirsty, so I gave them a sprinkle. :)

Little things that take only a few minutes can make a big  difference.  I think they will be happy when they return today.

Treat someone like you would like to be treated...doing it without being asked will show you really care about them.

My mother-inlaw has recently aquired a new neighbor, he is just like you, he wants to be nice to his 86yr old neighbor, so he goes out of his way to offer to take her garbage can out to the street. Her driveway is on a deep incline and it is not easy to take that large can to the top. Considering this man has parkinson disease, I think his generousity of spirit could put him in the top 5 of my hero's list. My mother-inlaw recents his kindness, she feels he thinks of her being to old to do things for herself, so the recentment grows each time he tries to be kind. It took me along time to understand how she thinks, but I did learn. Now I save my kindness for strangers

I have a few friends that say they do not know or trust their neighbors and asked us to visit their home...I was glad to help but said an extra prayer to God thanking him again for the gift of wonderful neighbors!
