Stories of Kindness from Around the World

Dancing in the Rain!

--by philster, posted Jul 31, 2007

I recently moved back to my home State of Florida after being gone for 28 years.  I am 29 with an additional 18 years experience.

In Florida, this time of the year, one thing is certain -- rain.  As I got older, I started to think of it as a bother if I had to go somewhere but otherwise, it was a joyful event in my mind.  Two and a half years ago, I had cervical spine surgery that was damaged and cannot be fixed.  I suffer from daily neck aches, headaches and sometimes migraines.

Last week, I awoke and it was raining -- no thunder and lightening, just rain.  I love to go to sleep when it is raining and as a kid, I would beg and plead to just go play in the rain.  I was usually allowed as long as it was just raining.  I would spend hours on my back in the grass feeling the rain on my face, jumping into puddles, building stick boats and following them to the gutter.

As I was thinking of this time in my life, it brought a smile to my face.  I waited in bed for the thunder and lightening, but none.  So, I put on a pair of cut off sweats and a shirt, took a beach chair and sat in the rain.

It was WONDERFUL, letting it fall on my face again, feeling it hit my body.  I then walked for half an hour in the rain, stopping under streams coming off the roof leting it hit the top of my head, water streaming down my face.  Just getting soaked to the bone.  I then went for a walk around my complex in the parking area.  Long wide streams of water, me stomping in them, kicking the puddles, stomping the puddles and just mentally letting go.

For about an hour, I forgot about my pains, problems, life issues at 29 with 18 years more of experience.  I was kind to me.  I am not often that with self criticism but that morning, my life was good ... just letting the rain wash away all the things that generally load me down.

Thanks for letting me share and reading my story.

Thank God for those good times to grasp and pull us through the difficult times in our lives. Good for you and God Bless. ~Aurelia

brighteyes wrote: Philster......I can relate to your story....I am a worry wort but working on Letting go. I have an affirmation, "I let go and let God". I believe it is a question of faith...we need to trust that what we need will be provided at the right time, the right place, etc....and if we did not have life challenges, how would we learn and grow and strengthen ourselves....its in the difficulties that we really get to know and understand ourselves...so I am grateful of my life as is.
When I get really down, nature always has a way of perking me up....going for a walk, listening to the birds sings, watching a sunrise or sunset, T & L storms, rainbows, etc....boy, its been along time since I felt the rain on my face...my Mom said it was the best kept beauty secret (Ha!).
I also liked wings quote...wonderful as water is associated with emotions and the washing away with cleansing.
THANK YOU SO MUCH FOR SHARING YOUR STORY& THOUGHTS...YOU UPLIFTING ME TOO!
