Lessons From an Auto-Body Repair Shop

--by hurricane, posted Aug 28, 2007

My husband and I have an auto body repair shop behind our home and we both have worked in it for the past 4 years.  He does most of the work and I help him when he needs me.  I must say that I HATE this kind of physical labor and have NEVER had an interest in this, but because it's what my hubby wanted to do, I begrudgingly agreed to it.

By watching him and learning about this type of work, I was able to help out a total stranger today.  I noticed that there was red paint scrapes on her white pickup.  I knew I had to speak with her about how to easily remove those marks off her white paint on her truck.  She finally pulled into a parking lot of a restaurant and I quickly got out of the car.  I told her that I noticed the marks on her truck and that she could remove them by getting some laquer thinner, soaking a paper towel with it and rubbing the marks until they are removed.  She was so happy to hear that she could go to Auto Zone to get it in order to easily (and cheaply) remove them herself.  I told her that it would not hurt her truck's paint job, but to wash the area after removing the marks.

I helped save this woman money and time by using the knowledge I didn't even want...go figure!
