Stories of Kindness from Around the World

A Twenty Dollar Tip

--by MakeSomeoneSmile, posted Sep 2, 2007

Today I went to lunch at a salad place I have been to many times. There is a hostess/waitress there who is always smiling and very happy. She was my waitress today so I decided to do something nice for her. I wrote her a note telling her that I noticed her always smiling and very happy attitude. I thanked her for making the world a better place in her small way. I also left a $20 tip for my $6 lunch.

Because I parked just outside the window, I saw her when she went over to the table where I had been sitting. She got a great big smile when she read the note and called one of her co-workers over to read it. I watched her as she smiled in disbelief and must have been giving her version of this story. That made it all worth it for me.

I didn't sign the note and I wasn't expecting to be able to watch her reaction but it made my day and hers too I'm sure. It's great to make someone smile!

Even if you dont have the $$ at that point in your life, and you are motivated to do something for someone, some of the best things in life are free. I have to remind myself to be creative, which is hard for me, but, ultimatly, more satisfying

You are my Kindness Hero of the day!

I too sometimes leave a bigger than normal tip...Mom & I did several times while out in Carmel and we not always able to catch the waiter/waitress finding the large tip but were happy imagining it.

Great idea about leaving a note along with the larger tip...didn't think of that....and do agree this RAOK will NOT be forgotten and also will be shared with others.

Your nickname fits you! YOU had me smiling too.
Blessings & Smiles from Brighteyes ;)
