Stories of Kindness from Around the World

A Helping Hand for a Stranger

--by Jane, posted Sep 25, 2007

Recently  there was a farm accident, about 100km from our town. Being a remote town the patient, a six year od child was flown to the nearest major city over 900km away. She was involved in a motorbike accident ,and sustained horrific head injuries .The father accompanied the child in the air ambulance for the trip ,while the mother stayed at home with the remaining three children.

The mother had no one to help. Her mother in law came for a while so that she could travel to the city to be with her injured child as she was undergoing major surgery. The mother in law  had to return back to her home for her own medical treatement ( she lived in another state ).

I didn`t know the family but just knew she needed some help so I offered my help and home to them. I just thought if it had of been me in the same situation i would need help also. I had the children for a few days, they were angels. The oldest who was only eight was upset at night but we hugged for a while until he fell asleep. I reassured him that his little sister would be home with mum and dad before long.

The following day the news came that the surgery was a success and they expected her to recover fully. I had not been so pleased in such a long time as I bet the parents were also.

Then finally the day came that the mum returned home. She was such a lovely lady and it was great to finally meet the woman whose voice I had only heard on the telephone and to see the mum who placed such trust in me a total stranger to care for her family. Well the other news was that the child and dad had been flown home and the whole family was reunited. It was such a great feeling just to be able to help .

Yesterday in the mail I received a most beautiful card from the family thanking me for all my help. To me it was a pleasure.

If everyone just took a bit more time to care for someone in need it would be a much nicer world for all of us to live in .

What a fantastic act of kindness to take in the child and to offer your assistance....that also took trust and courage as I am not sure I would be so open to offer my home....

Bless you dear one for your RAOK and generosity! HUG, HUG!

You have me thinking about your comment about if you have been in the same situation, you would want the same kind of support....I will have to re-think my stance on this and what I would do in this situation.

Take care & Blessings to yoy/yours!
