Stories of Kindness from Around the World

"Making it Our Own"

--by kylierose16, posted Oct 13, 2007
We have just moved house, and there are boxes every where. My sister and I take a lot of pride in our places, and love to make it ‘our own’, with pictures on the wall, ornaments out, and things put away tidily. My sister’s room was by far the worst, a total bombsite, as she had packed everything up in 1 rushed hour. Clothes were everywhere, stuffed in random bags and boxes, shoes, bags, cosmetics just scattered every where. She has a busy job, working 5 days a week, and comes home from work totally drained. She was keen to unpack her room and get it organized, and tried to do little bits after work, but just didn't have the time and energy, so just left it.

That weekend, she went out for the day. I went into her room, and got to work. At first I hesitated, I had no idea where she wanted her things or how she wanted it organized, but I decided to do it any way. It took me nearly 5 hours, and by the end was absolutely shattered, but it looked amazing, not perfect, but a lot better than it was!

That night, my sis came home, she didn’t go into her room at first so I went in the lounge. A few minutes later, she came running out into the lounge and had a huge beaming smile and gave me a massive hug and kiss. She was so happy, and kept hugging me and thanking me! She was sooo thrilled, it was so worth it! And even better, while she was out, she had bought some new linen and throw pillows for her bed, and was so excited that her room was done so she could put them on her bed :-)
