A Friend to Lean on

--by eleutheria, posted Oct 14, 2007

The doorbell rang... it was 9am, and I was sleeping in. I wondered weather or not I should ignore it, roll over and go back to sleep. I thought I had better answer it, it could be an emergency.

A woman stood at my door, with a scarf over her head, covering her hair, and she said 'Hello, is your Mum in?' I said she was on holiday, but did she want to come in anyway.

It turns out she is an aunt of a friend of mine, who Iv lost contact with. They are refugees from Afghanistan, and her brother had just been murdered back in their home land, she was crying, and had remembered how my family had looked after her neice when she needed it, and came to find us. She just needed a shoulder to cry on.

We sat together for 6 hours while she cried, I read from my bible some positive scriptures, which explain the hope of the resurrection of our dead loved ones back to the earth, and I comforted her by explaining that if you draw close to God, he will draw close to you, and he may not be able to prevent our problems right now, but can help us to cope with them.

She was so greatfull, and when I handed her a copy of 'What does the Bible really teach' she smiled and promised to read it from cover to cover.

I took her address, and promised to visit her soon, to see how shes doing. I posted her £5 anonymously, its not much, but I'm sure it will help her a little, and put a smile card in the envelope.

You could have rolled over and ignored the door; but you opened your door and your heart to someone who really needed you. You are blessed.

Faith is a marvelous gift and you've passed some onto her and gained a new friend. I will be praying for and the deceased members of her family. GOD BLess. ~Aurelia
