Stories of Kindness from Around the World

Perfume And A Smile

--by Aurelia, posted Oct 17, 2007

A friend of mine is going through a rough time. Her husband is struggling with addiction and away from home for some rehab. It's been very difficult for her to be home with the children and alone.  I try to put time aside from my work day to spend time with her each day.  We were talking and sharing thoughts and she got on the subject of not having extra money for herself  lately. She said "Yeah, I miss being able to spray 'TommyGirl' (a perfume) on myself and feeling so good."

I decided that I would go without extras & fast food to come up with the extra money to get the perfume for her. The next day I went to the store and bought it for her and wrapped it up pretty and left it on her desk at work!

She called me to her office and said  "YOU Didn't, did you?"  Well, you should have seen her face when she opened it up and sprayed the perfume on herself!

It felt good to make her forget about her troubles for a little bit of time and lift her spirits!  I don't need that fast food I would have used the money for, I have food for my spirit and soul.  I am blessed to have good friends and a wonderful life.
