'Mad Dog Lady' on the Bus

I sadly never got the name of this lady who I met one particular day but many people know her as ''Mad Dog Lady''.   It's a name given to her by angry teenagers with too much free time.

On this particular day, I was at the bus station waiting to go home after college and I noticed her behind me.  We both got on the bus, as she sat right in front of me. I noticed that she got out a free newspaper and proceeded to scribble over people faces quite vigorously.  I wasn't going to ask her why she was doing this but after a few minutes, I decided to ask her.

At first, it did'nt go down too well because she must've thought that I one of those angry teenagers ready to give her abuse.  I asked one more time and this time, she replied, "Women with makeup on should Die Die Die."  Initially, I was a bit shocked and sat back in my chair and let her be.

Further down the bus route, though, I looked over her shoulder and noticed she was still doing the same act ...  only this time using the biro pen too cut out articles. I quickly rummaged through my bag and pulled out a pair of children's scissors.  "Here, you can use these instead," I said.  With the look in her eyes, I could tell that she thought I was up to something, but she looked back and a few moments later she took them from me and began cutting out more articles.

Towards the end of the bus journey, she got up to leave the bus and turned to me to offer me the scissors back but I told her that she could keep them.  But what made me happy was the fact she smiled and said, "Thank you."

I hope I made her see that not everybody in this world is bad.  I don't think people give others the time and patience they deserve; if more people took the time to listen we would have less problems in the world maybe?

With mental illness or instability or homelessness or poverty comes... some unlovability in people's minds. So... you did a kind and noble thing. :)
