Found-Money In My Coat Pocket

--by Aurelia, posted Mar 4, 2008

Yesterday while I was out shopping, I was approached in the parking lot by a young man. He kindly asked for money for gas to put in his car.

I wasn't sure whether he spoke the truth, but I reached in my pocket where I knew I had 3 bucks and handed it over to him. He smiled and said, "God Bless You, kind lady."  My husband looked at me and said, "Why did you do that? You don't even know what he's going to do with that money."

I  told him this:  "Today was the first cold day in NY and I had to wear my winter coat.  When I put it on and put my hands in the pockets, I felt something ... it was the money/change from a purchase last March.  I was over-joyed that I just "found money".  I thought to myself as I headed to the store, I'm going to use this money for some kind of treat to lift my spirits.  Little did I know I'd be helping out a fellow human.  It was a treat for me to see his face light up when I gladly handed him my money. "

And indeed, my spirits were lifted beyond my expectations. The joy of giving is incredible. I smiled inside.

My husband just smiled at me and said, "You are your Mother's daughter alright!"  The best compliment I could ever receive. :)

Make sure to have some extra change in your coat pockets so that you will be able to help out the people less fortunate than yourself.

What better way to treat yourself than by "making your heart smile" by helping others. I'm glad you mentioned the Salvation Army - I sure miss seeing those red buckets and hearing the bells as often as I used to hear them. I wish they were at EVERY shopping center to keep the spirit of Christmas in the holiday - a constant reminder of why we are doing what we're doing! I'm sending you KarmaBucks!

You know your hubands reaction was right. But, your words were more generous and powerful. There is something you need to know when you do something or you give something to someone, If you are doing it from your heart not from your mind. It will make the receiver more than Happy. Happy to hear what you are everyday doing. Keep It Up...!!! Brighten someone's day so that GOD brightens your days...!!! GOD Bless...!!!
