Stories of Kindness from Around the World

Anger Management Gift Economy Style

Several years ago I wrote a book entitled “Anger Work: How to Express Your Anger and Still Be Kind.” I am a clinical psychologist working in private practice and wanted to help people who struggle with emotional pain and trauma. Over years of working with children and adults, I had learned that anger, if expressed correctly, could help people to heal instead of causing more pain and suffering.

After I wrote the book, I decided to offer to send it out for free to anyone who couldn’t afford it. Then, a couple of months ago, someone e-mailed and suggested that I offer my book for free as a download from my website. Last month, I thought I would try and see if I could create an unabridged audio recording of my book and offer this for free from my website (so many people prefer audio to print books). The company which helped me to accomplish this goal was also able to put my unabridged book on itunes as a free podcast. So now there are three free ways to that people can access my book anywhere in the world!

I do this because I have been blessed with a wonderful family, a peaceful life, and I want to give back. When I was younger, I had the opportunity to visit Mother Theresa in Calcutta and later befriended Mister Rogers. They both impacted my life with their unrelenting love of others. My goal in Anger Work is to help people use their anger to heal and not hurt. I teach people how to be kind in all situations, even when they are angry. If you do this you will enrich not only your own life, but also the lives of those around you. If you know anyone who might who might want a free copy of the book, they can get it at www.DoctorPuff.com. Peace to you all.

Mr Rogers had an enormous impact on my life and through his work,he helped me raise my children. Two times I wrote to him and he took his time to write back. Sometimes I quietly watch the reruns of his shows, even though I am 51 years old. I miss him, and am thankful he left behind priceless wisdom and kindness. It will be a gift to read your book, thank you.

I 'manage' my anger by shouting and cursing in the privacy of my car (usually at some poor numb-nuts who has cut me up) after I have finished shouting I open the window to let all the anger out and the fresh air in, take a big lung-full of air and put something cheerful on the CD player. Works for me! Anger expressed and peace restored :o) have a safe trip. TheakstonCat x

Niels wrote: Thanks, somehow you have pushed me onto my idea again, and now I'm sure I'll do it. A friend of mine has some trouble with stressmanagement and I was thinking of buying a book for him that I know from my dad(Don't sweat the small stuff, and it's all small stuff. Great book, read it!) I was still wondering if I would just give it or put it in his mailbox. Now you have convinced me to do the latter and add a smilecard :)

(let's hope it fits in his mailbox.. or I'll come up with a different way.)

I printed the free version off an hour ago and I am glued to this-- I do retreat work with a program called Rachel's Vineyard (www.rachelsvineyard.org)- This program targets men and women involved in an abortion experience and the consequences. This is not judgemental or condemning - its all about God's love and unconditional forgiveness and mercy. Many people are often convinced by well intended people that abortion is quick fix, but the reality's of living with that choice are very different andrarely spoke about - Often ther is some kind f abuse or abandonment in ther past and as you nail - repressed---this information is useful on so many levels personally and professionally- Thank you again for so freely sharing this!
