Stories of Kindness from Around the World

Food For Thought

--by RoseMarie, posted Jul 18, 2016

Today I did something I have been really ambivalent about before joining your beautiful souls at KindSpring. I am not a shy person, nor am I a confident person, I also have no difficulty talking to strangers. I have always had difficulty though in dealing with homelessness.

It is not difficulty per se about homelessness, it is more about whether the person is genuinely homeless and in need. This is because I have often heard that sometimes people are not homeless and they are just trying to hoodwink anyone who is naive enough to be hoodwinked.

Today I spoke to a homeless man who was sitting outside shops in my town. He was sitting on his sleeping bag. I bent down and asked him if he would like me to buy him something to eat. He said he would and I asked him what he would like. He told me he would like chicken. I went to the nearest cafe and I bought him a beautiful gourmet chicken and salad sandwich and a drink.

Was he really homeless though or was I just a naive person who had been hoodwinked ? I have decided not to censure my actions.   Does it really matter? The reality is I bought a person food, it was a person who was happy for me to buy them food. That's good enough for me. No more thought attached to it.

Such a wonderful act of kindness, thank you for sharing
