A Smile In A Pocket

--by lmil1954, posted Apr 27, 2008

I received my first pack of smile cards not long ago.  I had bought some clothes for my granddaughter for her birthday and one pair of capris I got for her was too small.  A short time later, she gave them back to me.

There happens to be an adorable young girl in my church whom I thought would be a good fit for these capris.  So, I put a smile card in the pocket (sticking out a little), folded the capris up, put them into a bag, and wrote her name on the pant's tag so she could see it through the bag.  I brought it into church inside a white bag so no one could see what I was carrying because I wanted it to be anonymous.

During "Meet & Greet" while everyone was walking around greeting each other, I took the plastic bag out of the white bag and snuck it over to where she sits.  Out of the corner of my eye, I saw her expression when we sat back down.  She and her Mom had a look of wonder as they were holding the bag. This gets better.

Later that afternoon there was a gathering at the home of a friend.  The young lady and her parents were there and she was wearing the capris which were a PERFECT fit.  I heard her Mom say to someone else, "I don't know who did it, but it had to be someone who knew her really well.  They're perfect!  It was so nice and the fact that they had been left anonymously really made it sweet."  I kept my giggle in my heart.  I got the idea of remaining anonymous from this website.  Thanks!

It didn't fit...great idea to gift it anonymously to someone in the community that could use it. I think I will contact the guidance counselor at my son's school to see if there is a family that can benefit from passing these things on...anonymously of course!
