Words Of Kindness
One of the best ways to make someone smile is to give words of appreciation and gratitude. People seem to gravitate to people who can make others feel good.
Have you ever went to visit with someone and before you left they said, "Thank you for coming, I so enjoy your visits." Doesn't that make you feel better. To thank others for a well done job, is also a way of showing kindness.
I like to talk to others and give them a small compliment of thank you and leave a smile card. It doesn't take any extra time, and it makes the world a better place.

Free Hugs -- Hug The World
Hug the World Welcome to the planet Earth It can seem quite sad and cold Never fear there’s someone here With a heart of shining gold So let me tell you a story One that started with a hug And maybe by the end of it You’ll do more than shrug Our story starts in Australia A truly sunburned land With ever stretching coastlines Of lovely, pure, white sand Now let’s zoom in on Sydney And a busy shopping mall Where people seem so distant Like they don’t care at all At first he looks quite normal No different from the throng But as he stands with his arms raised His message is loud and strong FREE HUGS is all the sign says The people laugh and point Who is this man? They wonder Will he hug or disappoint? But still he stands, the sign held high His message is clear as day And then the people realise He’s changing the world his way Then someone comes up to him Looking down and out “I sure could use a hug he ... Embarrassed
I think I could live to 200 yrs. and still not understand what happened today. I was sitting infront of my little shop talking to a 6 yr old girl. In my 65 yr old mind I was trying to tell this little girl how important words were and how important it was to know how to use a dictionary. The word semantics came up and I went inside to get my dictionary, I wanted her to know the correct meaning of the word was.
However as I started to look up the word, I realized how hard it is to look up up word when you don't know how to spell. I went next door to ask her mother how to spell the word, she was of no help. In the end all I could tell this little 6 yr old, was she better learn how to spell or she would end up like me, knowing a word, but not being able to prove it in the correct manner. The good news is I did realize words change from time to time and I am not able to change as fast. I think I might be happy being a good heart. I do not have the win a spelling bee.

Baffling Software Leads to Kind Solutions
As a student researcher at the Radiological Sciences department at UC Irvine, I use various software to collect and analyze scans of people with brain diseases such as Parkinson’s and Alzheimer’s disease. When I first started doing research, I found the QuPath software to be very difficult to use. There were a lot of different tools and an extensive amount of new vocabulary to learn. There was another student working on a similar project also using the QuPath software. She walked me through a lot of it and although she had her own project to work on, she was always ready to answer any questions. I continued to struggle with the software during the times when she was not in the lab and there was no one to ask for help. It took me quite some time and practice to become proficient at using it but eventually, I was very well-acquainted with ... Read Full Story >>

Rewarding Kindness
I was in getting coffee one time and the girl behind me needed a bit more change so she didn't have to break a bill. Without hesitation a gentleman behind her gave her the necessary change.
I thought it was a generous thing to do and I paid for his coffee. There is a lot of good in this world and it is often hidden by the bad.

❤️ Be Kind
❤️ May kindness fill your day & small joys come your way….
💫 Checking in on two people going through a hard time….one local and the other far away. Send the far away friend a daily message & he shared “ Thank you for the daily inspiration. It helps 😊”
💫 Check in with the local friend to see if they need anything when we are out running errands & before I send in our weekly Fresh Direct order. She texts me if she needs help retrieving deliveries on her porch (she’s recovering from a bad fall & lives alone)

A Cup of Kindness
They have introduced a coupon system in my workplace for coffee where we have to produce a coupon to get coffee. And we must collect the coupon booklet from admin people on the first of every month. Yesterday i went to collect the coupon from our cafeteria on the 9th floor and then went to 2nd floor where the coffee machine is to grab a quick cup of coffee before starting my day at work. As i was waiting for the lift after getting the coffee I saw a senior person about the age of 50 being informed by the attendant that he could not have coffee without the coupon. And he had to go to the 9th floor to get the coupon and then come down again for coffee. But then it would be late for him to start his work since we have strict reporting time in our ... Let Your Voice Of Kindness Be Heard!
Have you seen the news off to the side on this website here about the extra $100 to spread kindness in the community? We have the chance to use some resources to spread kindness further! If you haven't yet, please take a moment to read the ideas and add smiles to the ones you like. This is a great opportunity to pay it forward, with no cost to you, thanks to one of the members. I know I voted for some and even added an idea myself! I think there are some great ideas there that would be fantastic to do. You can also add your own idea if you feel the urge! We can all make a difference. Let your kindness voice be heard! It ALL matters. As the wise Ghandi said, "Be the change you want to see in the world." A special friend of mine calls me her Kindness Guru so I'm trying to live up to that. I am not affiliated with the site, but I consider it a privilege to be part of this site and what it stands for and would love to see this opportunity used by all. Please take a moment to be heard! Your friend in kindness, MakeSomeoneSmile

Touching Hearts With Words and Actions
On Saturday, I took my car to the drive-through wash. When you come out the end, there is an attendant who hand-dries the car. Normally, the person doing this is minimally friendly, but on this day the man on duty was VERY friendly. He was smiling broadly, handling all the little details in a charming take-charge manner, and making jokes. I was amused, thinking "he's doing this to get a tip", but I realized that I really enjoyed it. And I went forward with my day feeling better than before I encountered this man. Later, after loading my groceries into my car at the market, I was about to roll my cart back to the store. I was thinking "sheesh, this WOULD be a day I parked extra far away. It sure would be nice if someone going in would want this cart and I could give it to them" - when right then an older gentleman ... Read Full Story >>

A Sweet Surprise for the Post Lady
Yesterday I wanted to leave a nice surprise for our Postal Carrier. I called the Post Office to ask who would be delivering our mail. They gave me her name, Michelle. So, I put a cake ball (which is the most decadent thing you have ever eaten) in a red plastic heart I had from a Valentine's gift which I had saved to use on just such an occasion. It fit just perfect! I added a SMILE card to the outside with a couple of small pieces of tape. I put it in an envelope. I wrote To: Michelle and drew a "stamp" on it myself with a little heart. On the bottom I wrote "Pay it FORWARD". I put it in the place the carrier always picks up our outgoing mail. My plan was for her to just scoop it all up and go to the next suite and find it a few minutes later, or ... Read Full Story >>

A Creative Way to Teach My Children an Important Lesson
I have two sons who are 5 and 3 years old. They love to take walks outside and one of the walks we often do is along a cycle path through some fields. This path eventually leads to the local high school, so there is always some litter scattered on the sides, even though the city's cleaning squad sometimes tidies it up. One day an idea occurred to me, I decided to show my children that we could do something to make a difference. The next day, we took a plastic bag and some rubber gloves with us and the children and I collected whatever litter we found on our way. My sons had so much fun, since at that age they love picking up things from the ground (and with the rubber gloves I did not need to be scared they would catch something) and it was a creative ... A Life Lesson From A Farmer
My dad sent me a nice story forward, and here's an attempt to paraphrase the gist..
A certain farmer with the best crop yield was known to give away his seeds to other farmers in the area. When asked why he would give away his assets, he responded, "Well, you see, the wind blows seeds from all over into my land. If my neighbors have inferior seeds, then I will get an inferior crop. Therefore, to ensure that the wind brings me the best seeds, I must share my best seeds with others.
This is true about farming, and true about life. If we have an exquisite seed of happiness, why not give it away, so the wind blows it back to us.

My First Thanksgiving
At 47 years old who would have thought I would have been wearing a "Baby's First Thanksgiving" bib? Although I didn't actually wear a bib, last year was my first "real" Thanksgiving. I came from a broken home and when I married 25 years ago, I sought to make my family everything I didn't have growing up. I'm afraid I had that "white picket fence" mentality. Every holiday needed to be picture perfect. The food, the dishes, the house decorations, even down to the cozy sweater I had purchased especially for the occasion. I was so wrapped up in how things were suppose to be, losing sight of what meant most. So many of my years wasted on being decieved. That was then this is now. Being alone now, separated from my husband, and our son serving in the military, I was blessed to have the opportunity to truly serve. A small group of friends and ... Read Full Story >>

New Glasses and Well Wishes
An old man I knew fell down in front of my house. He was okay but he had smashed his glasses. I knew he was living off a pension and had limited resources so I told him I would like to get his glasses fixed for him.
He told me if I go to a certain optometrist they'll do it free if I mentioned his name. I took the glasses there, mentioned his name, and they said "yeah, we know him" and then charged me $80 to fix them.
I never told him they charged me, I just passed on his new glasses and my well wishes.

Feeding the Soul by Helping People
Hi all, I would just like to say what a FAB site this is, and I feel blessed to be in this with soooo many beautiful people. At the tail end of 2007, my wife at the time told me that our marriage was over. It hit me extremely hard emotionally, physically, and financially. I had my faith in a lot of things taken away from me. But that all changed because of the love of the person that I was put on this earth to be with!! To cut a long story short, I put my house on the market (selling it at the worst possible time due to the economic meltdown), made a pittance on the sale, but I did not mind because at least I wasn't in negative equity. Being grateful for what I have, instead of dwelling on what I don't have has really kept me in ... Read Full Story >>

Cooking and Feeding With Love
I love cooking and food, so it's very natural for me to share the foods I make with my friends, family and co-workers. It's such a profound way to show someone you care about them. When I cook, I create meals of loving kindness, which I hope will nourish the recipients in body, mind and spirit.
It is very important to me to use mainly organic and non-GMO ingredients so that when I deliver food to my friends and see them smile and enjoy my cooking, I am reminded that I have shared my love with them. It's nourishing on multiple levels and I am grateful they relish seeing me with my cooking creations.

A Simple but Meaningful Act of Gratitude
Every month, I write letters to two Marines serving in Afghanistan who I don't know. I thank them for their service to our nation. While I don't know them, I hope that they know how much I appreciate them.

Runaway Coffee Barrels and the 'Angel of Mercy'
Coming home from a coffee shop today, we had our old truck loaded down with three 50-gal. barrels of mostly coffee grounds that we use to make compost. My husband had laid them down in the truck, and as we came up the ramp to a major intersection the tailgate hinge broke and all the barrels rolled out into the street behind us. Thank goodness there were no cars immediately behind us, which was a bit of a miracle since it was lunch hour. One barrel rolled right into a lane, and the two others were partially in a lane. We slammed on the brakes, jumped out, and I retrieved the closest one while my husband started running back toward the ramp to get the other two. I knew that one of the ones he was going to get was extremely heavy; we had had a horrible time getting it into ... Read Full Story >>

The Blanket In The Dug-Out
In my new position as manager of parks and recreation in a small California mountain town I have the great privilege of being able to visit parks and playgrounds as part of my job responsibilities. A month or so ago, on a cold autumn morning, I walked through a ball park near my office. In the dug-out I noticed some trash and an old blanket which I picked up and carried toward the trash bin. As I lifted the blanket to dispose of it I caught a whiff ... and it occurred to me that it was being used, probably by a homeless person. I stopped, thought about it, and reluctantly returned the blanket to the dug-out. Over the next couple of weeks I would pop my head into the dug-out. The blanket was always there, always in a different place. As our maintenance men were in the park often I assumed ... Read Full Story >>
