Frustration Turns to Generosity

I have been  feeling stressed lately due to a recent move and a new job.  My boss is  demanding as well. Mostly , I think I've been feeling scared and  focusing on my problems. I am re-focusing or "pointing the camera at a different angle," if you will.    I am legally blind yet partially sighted.  I had a brain aneurysm several years ago. Claudia, my neighbor who I met a  few days ago, is visually impaired as well. I wanted to do laundry Sunday and realized both washer and dryer were full. I felt frustrated realizing Claudia left her laundry sitting there. I made a quick decision and realized I needed to "get over myself." I folded her dry clothes. I love folding laundry so I it was very relaxing.       Claudia came downstairs while I was doing this and apologized for leaving her things. She is from ... Read Full Story >>

Bubble 911

I will try to write a clear story so that others may find it enjoyable to read. My grandaughter Zoey wil be 11 years old on 9/11. Her favorite word is bubble; that's the reason for my title. Zoey and I live 800 miles apart; Lack of money keeps me from personal visits with her. We talk every week on the phone. Zoey is "personality plus!"  She asks serious, thoughtful questions, such as, "Grandma, what do you think of capital punishment?" At other times and in different moods, she chats about "friend stuff." We share our favorite colors, numbers, names, books, and so on. Zoey and I even give each other spelling and math tests; we have lots of fun! I feel truly privileged to know this young woman who I call my grandaughter. You see, Zoey was an emergency  caesarean section; she was born with her umbilical  cord wrapped around ... Read Full Story >>

Doorbell Ditch on Easter

It was Easter Sunday.

The day before I thought it would bring plenty of smiles, for young and old alike, if I spread some happiness along the path we all travel.

So I got some white paper bags and tucked in each bag some speckled malted milk eggs, tiny chocolate bunnies, mini M&M's, and a few jelly beans. On each stapled bag, I wrote "Happy Easter from God."

The best part was knocking door to door and disappearing when someone sounded like they were opening the door. I felt wonderful and exciting to be adding some small  joy to each persons' day!

Denmark the Dog!

I had a brain aneurysm and two strokes several years ago which left me partially sighted but legally blind. The very best part is that I feel so glad to be alive. I just returned from another state learning for one month to train with my new guide dog.   When we go for walks, it is my decision to let others pet her or not.  During a beautiful spring walk the other day with Denmark, my dog, I heard some adult voices and kids voices. The adults were saying , "Shh, the dog is working." At the same time I heard the little children whisper, "It's my doggie." I stopped my dog and told the adults (who were the children's parents) that it was fine, that my dog is working but I can let her play too. The most awesome parts of this story are the parents enthusiasm while talking  and ... Read Full Story >>

A Turning Point

I live with a gentleman friend and his fourteen year-old son; he and his son usually do not get along. know it's a problem for this adult to relate to his adolescent, even though the adult is 35 yrs. older.

The teen needed some fresh new white socks and some new boxers. I suggested to my male friend when we were shopping alone that "Issac" needs some clothes. My friend insisted that his son appreciates nothing and deserved nothing. I secretly purchased the items. I called my friend aside later, when everyone was home. I handed him the bag full of surprises and asked him to simply give it to Issac. I urged him to ask no questions.

He did as I requested. Issac's brown eyes shone when he saw the gifts and filled with tears as he read the SMILE card and hugged his dad. I will always treasure the moment when my friend started crying, realizing Issac thought he purchased the items. To date, it's been a turning point in their often rocky relationship.
