A Precious Stone

A wise woman who was travelling in the mountains found a precious stone in a stream. The next day she met another traveller who was hungry, and the wise woman opened her bag to share her food. The hungry traveller saw the precious stone and asked the woman to give it to him. She did so without hesitation.

The traveller left, rejoicing in his good fortune. He knew the stone
was worth enough to give him security for a lifetime.

But, a few days later, he came back to return the stone to the wise woman. 'I've been thinking,' he said. 'I know how valuable this stone is, but I give it back in the hope that you can give me something even more precious.  Give me what you have within you that enabled you to give me this stone.'

Sometimes it's not the wealth you have but what's inside you that
others need…..A Precious Gift inside you.

$20 Bill

A well-known speaker started off his seminar by holding up a $20.00 bill.  In the room of 200, he asked, "Who would like this $20 bill?" Hands started going up.  He said, "I am going to give this $20 to one of you but first, let me do this.  He proceeded to crumple up the $20 dollar bill.  He then asked, "Who still wants it?"  Still the hands were up in the air.  Well, he replied, "What if I do this?" And he dropped it on the ground and started to grind it into the floor with his shoe.  He picked it up, now crumpled and dirty.  "Now, who still wants it?"  Still the hands went into the air.    My friends, “We have all learned a very valuable lesson”. “No matter what I did to the money, you still wanted it because it did not decrease in value.  It was still worth ... Abraham Lincoln's Letter To His Son's Teacher

This one is a part of Abraham Lincoln's letter to his son's teacher; it is more relevant today than ever before. He really held life in high esteem and knew the value of doing the right thing. What a great man Lincoln was!

"Teach him ….That a dollar earned is of far more value than five found.
It is far more honourable to fail than to cheat. . . . .
Teach him to have faith in his own ideas…..
Teach him to sell his brawn and brain to the highest bidders, but never put a price tag on his heart and soul.
Teach him always to have sublime faith in himself because then he will always have sublime faith in mankind…..”

Three Simple Words

The other day I was parked outside cleaning out my jeep.  Coming my way from across the street was what society would consider a bum. From the looks of him, he had no car, no home, no clean clothes, and no money. There are times when you feel generous, but there are other times when you just don't want to be bothered. At this particular time, I did not want to be bothered.  I hope he doesn't ask me for any money, I thought. He didn't. He came and sat on the wall in front of the bus stop, to wait for the bus. After a few minutes he spoke. 'That's a very pretty Jeep,' he said. He was ragged but he had an air of dignity about him. His scraggly blond beard kept more than his face warm. I said thanks, and continued cleaning out the ... Read Full Story >>

Sands Leave for Stones to Live

Often we forget how to truly live. Here is a tale to remind you: Two lifelong friends were walking through the desert. At some point during the journey, they had an argument, and one friend slapped the other one on the face.  The one who got slapped was hurt, but without saying anything, he wrote in the sand: TODAY MY BEST FRIEND SLAPPED ME IN THE FACE.   They kept on walking until they found an oasis, where they decided to take a bath. The one who had been slapped got stuck in the mire and started drowning, but the friend saved him. After he recovered from the harrowing near-death experience, he wrote on a stone:  TODAY MY BEST FRIEND SAVED MY LIFE.    The friend who had both slapped and saved his best friend, asked him, "After I hurt you, you wrote in the sand and after I saved you, you wrote on a stone. ...
