Mother Son Drive-thru kindness

I took this photo today only minutes after doing a very popular and traditional random act of kindness. It was the most glorious warm spring day today and I treated my boys to a lunch. At a famous take away place (in background).

I went through the drive-thru which I rarely ever do. Twice a year at most. But today as my toddler, seen in picture, was in a "mood" we opted for the drive thru. This gave me a great opportunity to pay for the car behind. This act of kindness for some reason is my hardest to do. I get so nervous and drive out that drive-thru like I'm in the grand prix trying to escape and not be seen!

Today the nerves were less (it's my third time). Such a delight it is to make another persons day. The guy in the car behind me could not stop smiling! I know I made his day and what a blessing to be able to do so ♥

Best China In The Afternoon Sun

My lovely neighbour popped over for a cup of tea, and I decided to get out my best china (my parents wedding present). We sat outside on my front verandah in the afternoon sun.

She is struggling with depression, so we had a chat about life and moving forward. Little Roux and Puss decided she needed attention so she got lots of cat and dog love. She brought me over some beautiful roses and jasmine from her garden.

I'm glad I made time for her, she needed a friend and some kind words.

Are You Bananas?

I was at the supermarket using the self service checkout and a man next was engrossed in his music playing on his headphones. He left and forgot his bananas. I called out after him but he didnt hear me. I tapped him on the arm and said "your bananas" he looked at me and took his headphones off and said "what?" So I repeated it, and added " you left your bananas behind" he gave me a big smile, and said he thought I said 'he was bananas' (like an insult) so we both laughed. He said he was getting the bananas as a favour for his neighbour too.

Being brave with kindness

As some of you may already know I recently 'outed' myself as a kindness doer. As someone who does acts of kindness. It took a lot of courage but I knew that by sharing all I do with friends, family and Facebook I could inspire more. Since doing so I've had many people (some even strangers) tell me how much I've inspired them to do the same. This morning I received this photo and message from a friend who performed her first little random act. This chocolate bar and note. She told me how nervous she was and how much courage it took. I'm so proud of her!

But I'm also proud of me. Proud of me for facing a fear and sharing something I had kept hidden for so long. Had I not went through the discomfort the many who have since benefited wouldn't have.

So be bold. Be brave. Be kind. Face your fears and do it. You will not be disappointed ♥

Picking Up Litter

This morning we took Roux to our local beach. I took my gloves and bag and picked up rubbish while Roux had a swim. Two ladies recognised me, and live in my street. We had a nice catch up (Id never spoken to them before) They said they had seen me picking up litter before in the park in our street and wondered why I did it. I said I liked leaving places tidier than when I left.

Books And Lunches

Simple thing today: I left a book in a laundromat with a note, wrapped in a pretty ribbon. I also went to my local Dollar Tree and bought supplies to make 10 lunch/snack packs to distribute to people in need that I come across this week. I'll make up the packs tonight before bed and have them ready to go in the morning.

Savings On Gasoline

I order most of my groceries online and the store delivers them for a nominal fee. The fee is much less than what I used to spend traveling to a grocery store and home, and trying to get everything I bought loaded on my walker and into my building and up to my apartment. For the past couple of months my receipt has included another receipt that gives some money off the price of gasoline at a local gas station. Through this past weekend I collected 12 of these receipts with the savings on each one being either 6 cents off each litre or 7 cents off each litre of gasoline, for one purchase up to 75 litres. Smiles In The Parkinglot

This morning while I was getting gas I noticed a man digging through the trash cans looking for cans and bottles. I had a few in my car from drinks and went over to give them to him. He was surprised. I think he expected me to be afraid of him but when I went over and put them in his bag he just put his hands together and bowed at me. I could tell he spoke very little English but we shared a beautiful smile as the sun rose.

Mending Hearts One at a Time

I visit with patients at a local hospital to talk. I am part of a cardiac support group called Mended Hearts. To belong to Mended Hearts and to visit patients you must have had a cardiac problem. I had a heart attack a while ago and by spending time with cardiac patients I can offer comfort and advice as to what I went through which offers some help to people who are about to undergo surgery or are recovering. It is very gratifying as so many patients appreciate the visit. - Mike

Drinking Water Project For Kids in My Area

Government schools in India have very limited facilities, and drinking water is one of them. On a regular basis about 20 government school kids pass by my house. Today I assembled and distributed water bottles to all of them. I have also told them that they can refill the water bottle at my home every day before going to school. (Potable water is not available at the place where they live).

The kids were really happy with the colorful water bottles. I am thankful to this community in helping me do positive deeds. Thank you. Thank you, Thank you.

Volunteer Day

Last Friday I spent a few hours volunteering at the local science center, picking up trash and pulling weeds. The employee we helped was very appreciative, and invited us to come back anytime. Later in the day I spent a couple more hours volunteering at the homeless shelter, where I cooked spaghetti for all the people staying there and anyone who comes in off the street for a meal. I'm not used to doing physical labor, but it was a very small sacrifice for the good I was able to spread.

The Jungle in Calais

A little while ago I mentioned that a friend of mine was involved with an organization providing relief to refugees and others in the camp known as The Jungle in Calais. Last weekend she and her teenage son went there to distribute donations collected in their area and to assess what is most needed over the coming months. I admire her so much and really feel that her son's help there should be shouted from the rooftops as a counter to all the negativity we hear about young people today.

The photo is one she took when footballs were distributed! So many of the 'men' in the camp are actually youngsters and there were many games of football going on so the balls went down very well :)

Trash Cans: Nice & Dry

My sister & I went for a walk this morning. The garbage trucks had been by already. My sister noticed that a lid was off one of the trash cans & put it on, saying that it would keep the can from collecting rain (it's going to rain today). I felt a bit silly, since I am doing a kindness challenge but did not think of it! Still, better late than never :-) Together we put the lids on all the trash cans we passed on the way home. The owners will never know that they were saved from having to dump a bunch of water out of their trash cans!

Kind Sweetness

Had to make fudge for a school project, made two batches of vanilla fudge even though i only needed two pieces for the teacher to taste and mark me on,went later today and gave the two batches to the children's home a few blocks down from my house. From the kids to the amazing adults who run it, there were smile everywhere...

Support Chat Agent

I had to contact a Support Chat agent on a website (where you type to a live representative) and she was super helpful. When it was done I asked if I could leave her manager a great review, and I did have the opportunity to do so when the conversation was over. She seemed excited when I asked her, and I hope my positive review made her day a little better.

Lost Keys, Found Keys, ...

We all take our keys for granted. Today, I was able to help a student from failing her presentation. She came to me panicked because she locked her backpack, coffee, phone, and all of her items in her car. Her group presentation was 45 min. away and she was panicked! 

I called one of our Campus Police Officers to come to her car and assist her in getting her keys out. They have a special tool to get inside cars. I was still worried that she would be cutting her presentation time pretty close, so I phoned her professor and told him of the situation. I asked if she could possibly be the second group to present. He was so helpful and moved their group into the second spot. No one is going to fail today!

All is well in the world now!

Boomerang

While my neighbour and his girlfriend were on vacation I watered the flowers and looked after his flat (and post). Knowing he would be back yesterday, I placed some muffins (chocolate-chili-plum :-}) as a welcome gift on his table.

He just came up, he and his girlfriend were very happy about this gesture, which made me very happy as well after I had a a little bit "drab" day. :-) Kindness coming back directly to me :-) LOL

Dinner for a friend in need

Today I heard from a friend who is dealing with his wife's serious illness. He mentioned that had a bad cold and couldn't imagine dealing with dinner for the family who have gathered to care for his wife. I sent him a text to let him know that dinner was on its way and set about preparing two dinners (one for my family and one for his). I was able to gather much of it from our garden and it just felt so wonderful creating and infusing these meals with deep love and blessings. I even gave them a bottle of homemade sweet organic blueberry wine!

Today I Participated In ...

Today I participated in a beautiful Dutch project aimed at helping women refugees. Participants are asked to donate toiletry bags with supplies. At the end of this week, all bags will be shipped to Greece and handed out to women. I bought supplies and filled two bags. A small act that will hopefully bring a smile to a woman's face.

What I Want on My Birthday

I'm a Director overseeing 5 departments, at work. Last Friday was my birthday. After lunch, I walked with my administrative assistant over to the cafeteria to get a soda only to find all of my staff currently on shift was there, waiting for me. They got me a cake and made my whole afternoon better. I choked up a bit when they sang me happy Birthday.

I know it's late - but here's what I ask of everyone each year for my birthday (from my post on FB):

"My birthday message is the same as last year: For my Birthday this year, I once again ask for something from each of you. Do something nice for somebody today. Stranger, friend, I don't care. Just something nice with no need of a reward or thank you. No need to tell me, I'd rather not know. That feeling afterward? That's my gift to you"
