Stories of Kindness from Around the World

Lending An Ear

On Saturdays we are able to go and help serve breakfast at the soup kitchen. My two boys go with me to help. They see what it's like to have nothing & to be thankful for a warm meal. We started to make muffins to take with us when we go. When everyone is leaving they can take the muffins for later. I have one boy who serves everyone with a smile. My other boy takes the time to sit & talk to the people there. To make them feel like they have a worth. Homeless... Dirty... What ever their story may be... He listens. To me- that is the biggest heart of all that we do.

Middle-of-the-night errand.

My friend hurt her leg while out in town. Luckily (sort of) we had some crutches at home from another leg injury she had a few weeks ago. I got changed (it was 2am) and ran down into town with them so she could get back okay. I'm so glad I was able to help.

My Usual Kindness Act ...

My usual kindness act I do whenever I stay in a hotel ... chocolate rose, card with beautiful words inside and either gift card or lotto ticket enclosed. The housekeepers do such a lovely job cleaning our rooms I always like to thank them. This time however I did a little extra kindness....

I made their job as easy as I could. I left our room spotless, emptied bins for them and loaded the dishwasher and washed dishes. A small gesture but one they'll appreciate ♥

Extended Hand In Friendship Today.

Our neighbor has two sweet, formerly abused rescue dogs. For several days, I have been able to coax them to come near me by offering "doggie treats". Today they both took treats from my hand. I was happy that I was able to finally gain their trust. I occurs to me that there are people in my acquaintance
who also seem fearful, distrusting and distant with me. I vowed today that I will not judge them, but will simply extend my hand and hope that they will trust my attempts at friendship.

Choose to Care

We're encouraged to be nice to other people. However, most people forget to be nice to their environment. Global warming is quite a big issue today in the 21st century. All around us we see the terrible effects, with even more to come. Pollution causes greenhouse gases to stay in Earth's atmosphere, increasing the temperature of the globe, melting glaciers in the north and south, causing abnormal weather behavior. Changed weather also promotes wildfires, diseases and crop failure through droughts and floods. There are some simple things you can do everyday to help preserve the Earth, prevent the extinction of animals such as the polar bear, and make earth a better place to live for you, your children, and future generations to come. Tons and tons of carbon dioxide are emitted by cars everyday, contributing to the climate crisis. We need to take action NOW to help slow down or even eliminate this ... Read Full Story >>

Bird Care

I am taking care of a bird that was attacked by a falcon. The poor thing almost lost one of the wings and was in a lot of pain. The good part is that every one that sees this bird with me wants to help and see how difficult life is for animals in a big city.

Standing on a train for others to sit

This morning I was sitting on the train commuting to work. I noticed a lady who was pregnant and no- one offered her a seat, even those who were sitting in the disabled seats.

I really was enjoying sitting down as I suffer vertigo and struggle to stand on the train, however I eventually offered my seat and stood for the hour commute to work.

I did have sore feet but I did feel good that I let someone who needed the seat much more than me have what she needed.

Kindness On The Bus

My husband phoned (he works in the CBD) to ask me to meet him in the city for dinner. I decided to take the bus rather than trying to park my car etc. I had a nice bar of Whittakers chocolate in my bag, so I wrote a note thanking the bus driver (Brindlegirl's idea) for driving me safely so I didnt have to take my car and find a car park. On the bus my husband whispered to me "have you got any post-it notes?" And I did, so he stuck one on to the back of the seat in front of us. When we got to our stop, I handed the bus driver the chocolate and note, and he had a huge smile and thanked me.

I have to share this wonderful story shared by my cousin Jane. She was in her first triathalon and went into a panic when another swimmer swam over her. She was panicking and called over the lifeguard. This 17 year old young man jumped in and came near her and talked to her. He said "I can't touch you or you'll be disqualified, but if you like, I will swim the rest of the way with you". And he did that, and my precious cousin was able to finish her challenge. Isn't that absolutely wonderful ?

Coffeeshop kindness

I was having a rough morning, and went to our school coffee shop to calm down. I was in my own world, but a woman in front of me in line told the cashier that she was going to pay for whatever I wanted to get. I was grateful but confused and she said, "you are a student right? This is my way of helping students." It made my day.

I did a few RAOK -I left a treat bag for the housekeeping staff and a thank you note, some chocolates in the hotel fridge, a great written feedback for the spa staff after our lovely massage, left two post it notes in a cafe bathroom, and an engraved stone on a seat. I also bought some ribbon for my random gifts and some origami paper for one of my students :-) it was great supporting small country town businesses. I realised I need to leave home more often 🚘

Turn Waste Into Energy By Giving

Today I took a box full of leftover biscuits from a breakfast at my job and took them to an after school homeless shelter. The staff was so grateful and appreciative. It felt so good to take something that would otherwise have been thrown away to waste, and give it to other humans for nourishment. It is so important we create energy for others in our communities. :)
