Stories of Kindness from Around the World

Melbourne Kindness

I've arrived in Melbourne and the kindness mission has begun!

My first was gifting the coach driver of the airport transfer a chocolate bar as I stepped off the bus. His face when I gave him the chocolate bar said it all. And as I walked away I overheard him say to a fellow colleague "after all these years working here that is the first time a customer and passenger has ever given me a gift".

I am so grateful it was he who drove us all today and that I was able to gift him. I'm about to head out and explore this beautiful city and along the way hope to be presented with as many opportunities as possible to be kind ♥

Kind words from a Stranger

This is new for me and I don't know what to say really so I'm just giving it a shot. I was always a runner and in pretty good shape for most of my life so far. Then I hit a bad patch and each day just couldn't get myself out there to run. I put on weight which just made me feel worse about myself. I finally got the running bug back again after a few years but it's much harder than it used to be and I struggle to slog through even the shortest, slowest jog. I was out in a run the other day and I had almost convinced myself to quit and give up when I heard someone say "You can do it!! It's hard, but you can do it!" There was a lady walking the other way and had the biggest smile on her face. Those words of ... Read Full Story >>

Key Hunting In The Park

I dropped my keys in the park. Not just my house key but my car key, house keys belonging to two friends, and my gym locker key!

I searched the area twice but couldn't find them. I walked back home, got my spare car key, walked back to the park, unlocked my car, looked again, still no keys.

I drove home, then, in frustration and worry, decided to go back to the park for another look.

A lady with a baby saw me looking and came over to help. Then ... voila! She found them! Yay! Sometimes all you need is a fresh pair of eyes.

Keys and car fobs are so expensive to replace. You better believe I gave her and hug and plenty of thanks!

Standing in a train

When traveling in a train to Pune, I saw a girl standing for a very long time looking hopefully that somebody would give her some place to sit, but none of the travelers seemed to be interested.

I got up from my window seat and offered my seat. A smile on her face told me everything that she felt at that point of time. She thanked me, but I said if you find someone somewhere in the same situation, you try and help her or him in a similar manner.

Kindness is Contagious

I first have to say how each and every one of you has made such a huge positive impact on, not only my life, but so many.

Earlier today I publically shared how a friend of mine (Mindy - name wasn't mentioned) often purchases a candy bar for the check out operator and how I too had that day.

Well since that post many others have gone on to do the same!

Tonight at work, thanks to this place and you all for inspiring me, when a customer mentioned how much she loved my bracelet I offered it to her. Taking it off of my own wrist and placing it on hers ♥
Kindness. spreads. It really does.

And thank you to all of you for sharing your stories with me. Without you or them I wouldn't be able to do the same ♡♥♡

Neighbourly Kindness

My husband and I are both under the weather with winter colds. My lovely neighbour (who's own dog passed away in March) offered to take Roux for an afternoon walk and is picking her up and taking her to the harbourside for a walk! I'm so very grateful for her kindness!

A Good Ding-Dong-Ditch

I just got a phone call from a friend that I "ding-dong-ditched." (I other words I left a package on her doorstep, rang the doorbell, and ran away before she answered.)

She said, "Thank you!" And I replied, "Hey! It was anonymous!" But I guess she figured it was me.

She said the kids all picked something out of the bag and went off very happily. She added that it was lovely to put her feet up at the end of the day with some treats to munch on.

For Peace Sakes

For the past eight years, I have been doing these nightly 'peace' walks by myself, helping those in community that needed help, from gangs, people, anything, anyone that needed help. But, mostly anti-gang stuff, to keep the peace.

It is dangerous work as my community is well known to have a gang problem. Doing this, i have whittled these gangs from 16 down to 3 gangs, by talking and listening to them, helping them to lead good lives, as most of them are starting to have children now. providing for their own little families.

Yesterday, the community and others from my reserve, co-workers, friends, ALL WALKED FOR PEACE, using my paths and trails. It felt so good, seeing everyone walk, for peace.

More Than A Munchie Box For Her Birthday

We were sitting on the bus and the guy behind us was on the phone. After a "business" call he phoned his sweetheart. He explained that some money he was due wouldn't be paid in one lump but that they would get it even if they had to wait a while longer. It didn't sound hopeful. She must have asked what he wanted for dinner and he replied that the last thing he wanted her doing on her birthday was cooking. I got the impression her birthday had been a poor affair. I don't know if he'd got her a gift but her not cooking seemed important to him, as if it as all he had to give. So he suggested he picked up a take-away and said he knew a place that did a "munchie box" for a very reasonable price. For "reasonable" I heard "cheap." Then she must have explained ... Big Apple Smiles

Warm & Wonderful Peace Dove Encounter.....

We took the subway into Manhattan today & as we entered the subway car a young man got up to give me his seat. I thanked him & he flashed a big smile. So, of course, I handed him one of Mindy's peace doves (never leave home without a few). I explained how my friend makes them & that there was a blessing tucked inside. He was visibly touched & expressed deep appreciation & we were grinning at each other, as was everyone in earshot.

A while later, as the train was pulling into his station, he came over to us & embraced us both so warmly and told us to keep on loving one another. I assured him we would & had been for 38 years. It was such a good exchange of loving energy on the New York subway. The ripples were felt by lots of people as there were big smiles all around us. It felt so good. 😋

River Kindness

This afternoon we took Doggie down to the river for a swim : ) Our closest access point is a nice, rural spot maintained as a public boat ramp but with NO garbage cans : /  So every time we go there, I like to spend a bit of time collecting trash.

Today is the first time I remembered (hooray!) to bring a pocket knife so that I could cut free the yards and yards of fishing line dangling from tree roots along the river bank. The tangled mats of non-biodegradable plastic line (often with fish hooks and lead sinkers attached) are a hazard to wild waterfowl. What I collected today was just a small fraction of what is there, but it felt good to do!

Niece Admired These Earrings

Niece admired these earrings I was wearing the other day. Recycled a greeting card to present them and wrote an appreciative note to her on the back.

I had gotten the earrings at a craft show last year. Grateful to have enjoyed them for awhile before gladly gifting them forward :).

Truly, everything we have is on loan anyway :). Blessed to realize the beauty of impermanence, my kind friends.

Giving And Receiving In Return - in Kathmandu, Nepal

Dear KindSpring Friends, Yesterday I returned from my kindness challenge in Nepal a better person for having participated in a medical mission to help the earthquake victims with free medical care in the devastated areas around Kathmandu. Even though it was a trip to give medical care to those in need I gained so much from these wonderful loving, humble souls that I feel I came away with more than I gave. As we all know Nepal was rocked by two powerful earthquakes recently and many of the rural villages were all but destroyed. Many villagers sustained injuries that did not receive proper medical care. Working with the BICOL Clinic Foundation I was able to volunteer to go to Nepal with a medical team of approximately 20 doctors, nurses and students to set up free medical clinics in the most devastated villages. Working with the local teaching hospital we were able to ... Read Full Story >>

Living out a life-long dream in South Africa

My heart is so full of love and fulfillment, I have been so blessed to be able to live out a life long dream recently. I am so grateful for the support and friendship of a very dear friend of mine, who has helped me with making a kind acts project possible. We live in Johannesburg South Africa, where as you all know poverty and unemployment are huge issues. I have for many years had a dream to open a soup kitchen. To be able to help and feed the hungry. We have created a Facebook page called Shadows, where we have started sharing our kind acts activities with our friends. We are handing out blankets and I am making hearty soup, which we have started handing out to the homeless. There are so many people living on the streets, it is heartbreaking. I have now created a blanket drive and hope to ... Read Full Story >>

Summer Sharing!

A friend had mentioned in passing the other day that she wondered about how the ice cream was at a new shop that opened in town....so yesterday when I was grocery shopping near that place, I picked up a tub of ice cream from the new shop and surprised her family with it after their dinner! They were delighted and surprised :-)
And it turned out that the ice cream there was quite scrumptious!!

Sent a heartfelt gratitude/friendship card to a special friend

Sent beautiful nature photos that I took while hiking to various friends to brighten their day.

Spent some time with lost tourists who had lots of questions about the hiking trail/directions this morning, and they were very grateful.
