Cleaning Kindness

Today I cleaned my teacher Ms. Rod's room after lab day. It was very dirty and took a while, but she was very happy that she got some help cleaning up the room. I think I made her day a little less stressful, being she's getting married is this week.

Turning it Around With an Act Of Kindness

I was at work in the same aisle as a lady and her daughter when I overheard the mother yelling at her daughter. She said: "Great! No onion soup to use for my beef. Now I'm going to have to re-plan my entire meal for the day. I told you we should've went to Monroeville grocery store instead! They never have what I want here. The woman's daughter seemed upset and replied back: "Mom you don't need to be mad at me. "

I went into the back found 2 cans of onion soup and searched the whole store to find the lady and her daughter again. I asked: "Mam will this work?" The woman looked at me puzzled. (Like how did  you know?) I shared with her that I had overheard what they had talked about  A big smile came across her face and she said 'thank you'. Not only that, but her daughter  also had a relieved smile. I hope I turned her day around. :)

Stranger's Serendipidous Skateboard Kindness

When I was on the till in the charity shop today, an elderly gentleman came in to ask for a skateboard. His wife has had physical therapy and used a skateboard for it. We didn't have any, but another lady was in there and said that she had a skateboard that she was going to throw out. She stated it was a bit rusty and needed a clean and the man said he didn't mind doing that. So they exchanged details and she said she would call him and bring it round for him. Must have been fate for them to be in there at the same time :)

College of Kindness

I left packets of chocolate biscuits, trail mix, and other treats on coworkers desks as we are heading into finals week! I also got one of my classes of students to write their thanks in a homemade card to our lab support staff, who have done an amazing job! They went above and beyond to help us with an exciting project that we piloted this term. The staff were so appreciative and enjoyed reading the student comments!

Lending phone app motivated one to pay it forward

I have an app on my phone, to see what certain people would love to lend for a bit. Today someone requested a camera. I was granted a newer one by friends a half a year back. I responded to the girl who requested the camera, that she could even keep it the one I was originally thinking of lending.

I'll see her tomorrow and explain it's use a bit. Made me smile! :)

A Pizza Parlor Tag

After a long and hurried day of being out and about we started to wonder about supper and decided on pizza. While at the local pizza place my partner and I noticed a neighbor coming in after us.

We know this neighbor to be struggling financially right now, so after she placed her order my partner engaged her in conversation and I asked the employee to put it on our bill. I added a few extras knowing the food would feed herself and her kids for a day or more.

Once we got home we appreciated our meal much more knowing how excited her kids would be when she came through the door with an armload of "Yum!" It was also fun getting out of there before she knew what we did.

A Ten Dollar Gift Worth a Lot More

I had a Wal-Mart gift card to use so I went to buy some things to make little gifts for random kids walking through the mall.  I got my stuff and made my way to the check out line.

The cashier scans my stuff and I give him my card. The machine rejected it, but  he tried many ways. It would not work. Then I noticed the lady behind me waiting. She was just standing there watching me.

I turned around looked at her and said "sorry", she then took a ten dollar bill out and handed it to the cashier. I' was stunned. All I could muster up was a thank you over and over again. She says "whatever you got, enjoy it!" I will never forget her kindness. I will certainly be passing the love on!!! :)

Appreciating The Rare Gems in Our Lives

I met a lady years ago, only twice, but she has stayed in my mind until she died at 97 years of age, a week ago. I asked myself why did she stay with me all these years. She was one of those people who are just so lovely and good. She wasn't bitter when she could have been, wasn't angry, wasn't a gossip, mean, or hard to talk to. She just was a really kind, loving, forgiving person.  When you meet someone and you have an instant connection and feel like this person is a friend, cherish the time. Learn from the time you spend with them. They are like rare gems. I hope to be a rare gem. To cultivate those qualities in myself. To all my lovely rare gems on KS, I am grateful for you.

Being Brave in Hopes of Bringing Health To a Little Girl

Today I'm going to give blood and be tested as a bone marrow match for a very ill local girl. I was supposed to do this a while ago, but it was canceled because of a shortage of nurses.

I am touched by the kindness of the staff, and I have not even been there yet. They have gone to all the trouble of finding an English speaking lady to telephone me with the new date. (So grateful to Patricia, your kindness and efforts are greatly appreciated!)

I'm also really grateful to my partner, who has agreed to drive me there and back even though he has a busy day. I have a tendency to go a bit peculiar an hour or so after anything to do with needles, so I'm not safe to drive.

Wish me luck please. Wouldn't it be tremendous if I could be of help?!

(EDITED to add: This didn't work out and I was not able to do it. But maybe you could. Please join a bone marrow register in your area. It would be nice if this story inspired even one person.)

Simply Being Kind

I was recently at my seventh grader's concert and it was a blast. When it ended everyone was making their way to the door. I was waiting for my seventh grader, but noticed the doors were heavy and didn't have a way to stay open on their own. I decided to hold the door to help the majority of families to exit with out the worry of being whacked or even injured.

Some looked to see who it was holding the door - others even said thank you. It wasn't about having thank you's, it was simply about being kind.

Two Strangers Bond at a Used Book Sale

This past weekend I was at a used book sale and saw a small book that I got excited about. Another shopper, a woman I did not know told me to buy it. The book was only two dollars! She however suddenly changed her mind. She was in the process of filling a whole bag with books, which she would buy for only for fifteen dollars. The woman put the book I wanted in her bag, and then give it to me free of charge! What a wonderful surprise!

YOU Are The Gift

I am checking into my underground penthouse a.k.a cave until my six week follow up with the neurosurgeon. I have some sort of flu and the nerve pain has increased significantly. I'm not feeling like a happy camper. So I will leave you with this from 'The Joy Team' out of Vancouver WA. I'm not sure where this billboard is but I should track it down. Thank you ALL for being such gifts in my life - even when I am not here. xoxoxo

An Act of Kindness is Never Wasted

Today, I was shopping at Jewel and using the self check-out line when all of a sudden someone accidentally scanned their gallon of milk on my register when I was bagging up. It was only four dollars and they felt so bad, but I saw this as an opportunity to be kind. I paid for it and told them not to worry about it. They were extremely grateful for my act and left the store smiling. I felt good doing that for them.

Finding Gratitude for Mother Nature's Warmth

Today's weather was simply the best for this time of year in this part of the world. Too often, we are in below freezing temperatures and shoveling a feet or more of snow.  So my dog and I joined many others who spent time outside walking, riding a bike, skateboarding and just sitting in the glorious sun.

Being most thankful for the day's gorgeous climate, I extended my joy and thanks to the universe to everyone I met. Everyone responded with a smile and an appreciation of gratitude for the warmth and sun. Thank you universe.

Kindness And Care For Late Night Office Workers

There are a number of people who were work late at the office and I thought by the time they get home it would have been seven or eight hours since lunch. Therefore, I ordered some pizzas so that we could have a quick break and bite to eat before finishing off our work. This was greatly appreciated and enjoyed by everybody.

The Gift of Each Day

I am grateful for the gift of each new day. The opportunities to share kindness and love with others. Grateful for the lessons learned and truths shared.

I was able to share several large salads and a big pot of soup that I made with friends and neighbors . I received the gift of friendship and warm hospitality. I learned more about how to communicate with authenticity when dealing with "uncomfortable" situations. Loving resolution was afforded by speaking my truth with kindness.

Taking inspiration from KS community

Well after reading Mindy's post 're- sock and the homeless', I am off to buy some more socks and take them plus frozen meals out to the shelter.

I know how lucky I am with not having to work, married to a beautiful man, children living good lives, a cozy home, a funny little VW Beetle to drive around in (yellow daisy included), a mostly healthy body, Bentley  and simply having enough.

I am grateful that I can now look back at the hard, tough years of suffering and despair and now greet each day with pure joy. I thank all of you my friends for helping me make this happen. So many hugs of love to all of you.

Her Leg Was Crushed But Her Spirit Soared to Newer Heights

True Story: I was on my way to work on a two wheeler one day when a truck rammed into me and completely crushed my leg. It wasn’t the driver’s fault - there was a pillar which hindered his vision. People around immediately took me to the hospital and even though it happened around 9:30 am I was only operated upon at 5:30 pm. The doctors tried to save my leg but after a few days it got infected and I had to be amputated. When the doctor told me, I asked him ‘why did you take so long? I knew for a while that this would happen.’ What got me through this whole ordeal is acceptance - that this is my fate, now I can either choose to cry about it or take it with a pinch of salt and push myself. I picked the latter. In fact, when people used to ... Read Full Story >>
