Stories of Kindness from Around the World

Receiving an act of kindness

My friend phoned me (my husband was clearly on to the plan because he got my overnight suitcase out for me) and we are off on a road trip tonight to the beach for a girl's night. How lucky i feel. My friend had her three kids screaming in the background, she was booking a studio and the owner said "no, i think you need a good night's sleep" and upgraded us to a double room! Then said, "You can have the pamper package which includes dinner, breakfast and a massage at the same price!" Wow! a king size bed all to myself, and a night with my bestie 😌

Irs And A Simple Thank You.

I had some fun today. I needed to talk to the IRS. Nothing major, just needed some information on status of something. Ms. Evans was professional and every time she had to put me on hold, came back apologizing and thanking me for my patience. She didn't need to, she was doing what she needed to do to help me.

When we were done, I again thanked her for her help (she gave me happy news and she fixed something) and I told her that I knew the IRS was understaffed and did not have the resources to do everything they need to do. But I appreciated her help greatly and I thanked her for her professionalism and her service to the public and to the country.

I could tell by her response that she was actually beaming! I am also sure she doesn't have that conversation frequently. It only took a minute. I am sure she felt valued and I felt great having paid a well deserved compliment.

My Kind Friend

I would like to take this time to appreciate my wonderful friend's kindness. Yesterday we both went on small road trip to our university so that she could meet her roommates and so that I could get my ID and some textbooks. She also wanted to run a couple errands for herself after we met her roommates.

First, she was kind enough to be the driver in a city with construction. Second, after meeting her roommates, buying my textbooks was annoying because I went back and forth between the bookstores because of complications with the textbooks. So my friend had to drive me back and forth in a busy city to these book stores...

Then we went to her favorite bakery and although I didn't want anything she bought me a cookie to have anyway! She is so sweet and thoughtful. She also realized it was her friend's birthday who lives in the city we were in, before leaving for our road trip she got her friend a birthday card and made her homemade fudge :).

She was so kind throughout the day and I felt so bad for her driving around the city because of my annoying textbooks problems!

Finding a wallet in a Ferry to Cape Cod

About 2 weeks ago, my husband and I went to meet with our Bostonian daughter in Provincetown, Cape Cod. When we took her to the ferry to go home, I found a wallet, filled with credit cards, driver's license and cash. I looked at the license photo to see if the person was in the line for the ferry, but no luck. My husband suggested that I leave the wallet with the dock master, but I was apprehensive. We then went to a nearby post office and mailed the wallet back to the owner (with my return address on the label). My joy came yesterday when I received a card from the owner, thanking me for my thoughtfulness and wishing me blessings.

Moving Day

Hope you don't mind a past AOK, When my husband and I moved, it was a very hot day and the job was difficult, due to a steep driveway and TONS of boxes of books! Halfway through the day, we ordered pizzas and sodas and gave them to the movers. They were so surprised! No one had ever done that before, apparently. They said some homeowners don't even let them use the bathroom.

The traffic that made me smile

Today, I was late for work. All because I got stuck behind a mini bus on the narrow streets of my neighborhood. As I sat there fuming, I looked up to see a crooked little man, wearing a uniform and carrying a lunch box, coming out of a house. I could tell by the slow way he walked and the crooked bend of his body that he had special needs and that the bus blocking my way was for him. He turned around and waved good bye to his very elderly mother who was watching him from the porch of the house. Then, as he was about to board the bus, he turned, smiled, and waved at me. My anger left and the tears were rolling as I smiled and waved back. That smile made me late for work and I had the best day ever! I smiled at everyone I saw.

Show Appreciation For The Small Things.

Today I brought edible treats and my boss/coworker brought starbucks gift cards so we could celebrate a significant, albeit small, work milestone of our other two coworkers. They were surprised and delighted! It doesn't take but a few kind words and any small kind act to show appreciation and the results are endless.

Kindness at the bumper cars

Received a little kindness today!

You see the man in red on the dodgems with my 6 year old. Never met the bloke before. He is a staff member.

As my son didn't meet the height requirements to ride solo and I couldn't accompany him either, this man offered to ride with him. Seeing this man today - a complete stranger. Smile, laugh, joke, and high five my son totally warmed my heart.

It's always the little things isn't it? The smallest gestures and offers of kindness that can make all the difference in the world. I know today it did. To a 6 year old boy ♥

Close Friends

I arrived at my best friend's house last night (she's got three kids: 2, 4, and 7 years old) and as soon as she opened the door, she said, "Beware the apocalypse has struck." I thought to myself, "My goodness..."

So, I poured two glasses of wine and we started cleaning. It would have been overwhelming for her to do it alone, but together we conquered the mess.

After we cleaned, we started cooking. I had brought ingredients to make her dinner, and cooked it for her then and there. Together, we then made a risotto for her friend who just had a baby. It was a great evening!

Kindness for Animal Shelter

A few treats and toys to drop off at the animal shelter for dogs to play with and for staff to use as rewards for the dogs who are impounded. I hope they are successfully rehomed into loving families. I wrote a thank you card to the staff thanking them for doing a great job that must be so difficult at times and I hope they are encouraged.

Making a Day a Little Less Stressful!

Tomorrow is the first day for teachers in a challenging school. The teachers are 99% new! Baking, baking tonight! I think I'll decorate with butterflies, etc., to make them smile! BTW, I think that these kind teachers are sharing kindness so many times a day; they are truly the nicest people I have met! :)

Flying because of Kindness

I cared for a hummingbird who had wounded itself somehow. I brought it inside in a box and put a window screen on top of the box so it could not fly out if it survived. Every 2 hours I would go feed it with a dropper of sugar water and after 2 days it was well and ready to go. I took the box outdoors and removed the screen and it flew away, good as new. It made me happy to do something for nature. Ann

The Gift Of Joy

Today was our neighbor's birthday. He is a special needs adult who takes delight in the simple things we often take for granted. We took him to IHOP for a birthday breakfast (he L O V E S pancakes) and then on a horse-drawn trolley ride around town. We stopped at a bicycle shop and had him pick out a couple of accessories for his bike (he does not drive). His excitement and joy were a gift to us!

Fresh Veggies

I picked some zucchini and green beans from my garden this morning and shared them with my elderly neighbor next door. She insisted that we share a cup of tea before I left. She has many interesting stories to share. We both were smiling when I left.

15 kg Bag of Dog Food

Last week, a young shop assistant at the pet shop helped me to carry a 15 kg bag of dog food to my car. He also cheered me up after the end of a difficult day at work.

Today, I dropped in and left a thank you card and a Subway voucher for him. I also wrote two more thank you cards, and two more Subway vouchers for two other employees who have been super kind and helpful.

Chocolate Kindness

I posted this bog bundle of chocolate you see in this picture today to a friend, who recently mentioned she had run out. I posted it along with a note which read ... "I heard you were out of chocolate. Well we can't have that happen. Ever. Enjoy. We love you".

You see this friend is an animal activist. She is vegan and all her money goes on saving more animals. She never splurges on herself and finding dairy free vegan chocolate can be hard and pricey. But I did. For her. And I know she will appreciate it ♥

2 Surgeries, 1 Household

Today was such a peaceful day. I went to see my friend and her boyfriend earlier in the day. She is getting her kidney stone removed later this week and I wanted to spend some time with her before the operation. Her boyfriend is recovering from his own surgery from 2 weeks ago. I brought her a sweet lapis pendant and some earrings. She in turn sent me home with a cake (not that I needed it! :)). I had a small piece and it was delicious. I plan to share some of it with others tomorrow.

Pink Sparkly Hat

I gave my pink sparkly hat to elder friend. She loved it! I treated her to lunch and then, spur of the moment, we saw an afternoon matinee of the animated feature Inside Out.

With my blanket wrapped around her shoulders (I knew she'd be cold in the theater) and the sparkly hat still on, my dear friend sat beside me and we laughed louder than any two kids! :)

I'm grateful for the opportunity to enjoy our time together. She is such a joy, yet has certainly lived through much sadness.

It reminded me of movie's message; how through our sadness (and other feelings as well) we are transformed into the joy filled beings that we are meant to be. We cannot deny sadness, but face it, find support, learn the lesson, move on and let it go....
