Cigarette Butt Challenge - Removing This Frequently Littered Item

Cigarette butts are one of the top items that are littered, worldwide. They find their ways into our waterways after it rains, and can negative impacts to the planet, including animals.

There was a weeklong Cigarette Butt Challenge, where people would sign up and collect and dispose of littered butts.

It’s incredible how many gross butts you can find, everywhere.

I spent time on the weekend doing this.

On My Birthday

Yesterday was my birthday. I was 68 and I loaned £68 to three entrepreneurs through LendWithCare as part of my birthday.

On the day, we went to Durham and went round the Cathedral as we haven't been round it for a number of months. Back in 2013 we visited Durham for the day and they were creating a model of the cathedral in Lego bricks. As we were heading towards the cafe and shop I noticed a sign which invited visitors to come upstairs and see the Lego model. I told my husband I wanted to do that after we'd had a drink.

We went upstairs and were amazed by the model which contains 299, 876 bricks. One of the volunteers told us the history of it being moved after we explained we had been two of the people who placed a brick. The photod don't do it justice.

Generosity By Students

So today I was the recipient of my student's generosity. He texted me today and asked if i was available to go up flying with him tonight. I jumped on the chance! We flew out of Palo Alto and up to San Francisco. It was a beautiful evening, as you can see. We had incredible views of the GG Bridge and the Bay Bridge, as well as Alcatraz! And earlier this week one of my students gifted me a piece of art that she had done. I was moved to tears...especially when she told me that it was her favorite piece! I remember doing a challenge where the act was to give away my favorite book. That was pretty easy for me, as books are replaceable. This was an original piece. I won't be parting with it<3.

End Of Semester!

Yesterday started off with donating hygiene kits to a local organization that helps the homeless get back on their feet....they wouldn't take the mini snacks that I had also packed, so was able to give those to a young mother outside on the street--waved and smiled and "thumbs up" with her afterwards and could tell she appreciated the snacks. Gave a review session for final exams which was very productive and then came out to find two students waiting to ask me if I could write them letters of recommendation (of course, yes!). Later, treated fellow colleagues to ice cream (yum!) to celebrate almost end of the term. Gave fresh blueberries to a neighbor and distributed special treats to various friends and neighbors.

Today started with sharing an awe-inducing article with a bunch of folks, gave away half sandwich and cookie to a homeless man, dropped off clothes donation to Goodwill, sent flowers for someone special's birthday, and took my research student out to lunch to celebrate her graduation!

Lego In Ukraine

I have been hyper-focused on Ukraine lately. Another project was recently started where United24 partnered with Lego, this time to raise more funds for the Velykokostromska School in Dnipropetrovsk Oblast.

With a donation of at least $24 USD folks can win a raffle of one of five unique, Ukrainian-inspired Lego sets. I happily donated and told my Ukrainian friend that if I am lucky enough to win then I will make sure the Lego set ends up in his hands. He and his wife love Lego, and I believe the set belongs in Ukraine :)

Another Donation To Ukraine :)

Donated to Ukraine. They have launched another fundraiser to commemorate their (nearly) 124 million donations to their United24 platform.

Some of the many accomplishments completed, thanks to generous donors from all over the world, include 4 rebuilt schools equipped with bomb shelters, 18 apartment buildings currently under re-construction in the Kyiv region, 18 rebuilt bridges, and many, many more active projects.

Left A Review For A Restaurant

I was out of town last week for training and had a wonderful time learning and growing with many amazing doctors. One of those evenings I decided to treat myself and went to a pub nearby.

Ever since I was a wee lad I have loved pubs, and have fond memories of visits to pubs with my dad whenever we were out of town. This particular pub was everything I would expect, but my expectations were far surpassed. I told one of the managers that the food and drink was spectacular, the service was stellar, and I will definitely come back in the future. She beamed and was delighted to hear the kind words.

When I got back to my hotel room I left a 5-star review and many kind words about my experience :)

Kindness At The Children's Book Fair

Kindness at the Children's Book Fair

I love to read books. I recommend the book that I liked to others. Sometimes, I also buy those books and give them to schools or else.

Today, I visited Children's Book Fair. I gave many quote cards, Sri Ram photos, bookmarks, some Mindy's Origami Peace Dove attached to quote cards.

I told intense positive thinking story to one of the vendors. I gave them booklet on positive thinking and Umang embroidered handkerchief. They were very happy to receive them. They thanked me with smiles.

Helping with research of products

💫 My neighbor-friend of over 40 years came to me for some help in finding a replacement for a product she was using that wasn’t helping her. I told her I’d go online & do some research & get back to her. I spent a good amount of time online, learned a lot & was able to send her applicable replacement products & information pertinent to her need.

😊 I really enjoyed doing the research, learned a lot & it made me happy that she came to me for help & I was able to find useful info for her need.

❤️ In helping others we are also helping ourselves, on many levels.

🦷💕🦷. Dentist Office Appreciation

💕🦷 Surprised some staffers at the dentist office yesterday with a few hugs (prayer shawls) I crocheted for them…big smiles gifted to me in return 😄. Made my day.

Met new dental hygienist….she knows her stuff & worked well with my new dentist. I see more hugs being crocheted, lol…one for her and one for dentist’s wife. 🧶

I told them they work well together & although one hour in the dental chair was a bit grueling 🤪 it was pain-free, so thanked dentist for that.

All the staffers there are so friendly & helpful. Grateful 🙏

Little Miss Muffet

Last week, I was talking to my sister and she told me about her grandaughter playing with the cat I knitted for my sister some time ago. I told her I had a pattern for Litttle Miss Muffet which is a children's nursery rhyme: Little Miss Muffet sat on her tuffet eating her curds and whey. Along came a spider and sat down beside her and frightened Miss Muffet away.

Here's a picture of her with her bowl sitting on the tuffet with the spider alongside.

Billy

Sometimes you cross paths with a special soul - like Billy, and you realize anew how each of us is so beautifully unique. After enjoying the warm, healing, spring fed, mineral water of The Plunge, MisterM and I decided to take a relax in the sauna before heading home. That’s where we met Billy. Finding a spot to sit on the tiered wooden benches, a slightly garbled voice welcomed us with, “When I was 5, I was living on Pine Ridge (reservation) and was hit by a drunk driver. I died 8 times.” Well, talk about an ice-breaker! I could barely see him in the darkened space, but discerned a stocky 40 something years of age presence with an askew right arm, swollen hand, and an off kilter set to his body and right leg. Billy continued, “I didn’t want to come back, but Wakan Tanka (Lakota for God) said I had to, because I ... Read Full Story >>

Plants sale

I had quite a number of veg plants left over after having planted the ones that I needed in my allotment garden and as I couldn't bear to just throw the remainder onto the compost heap, I decided to hold a plant sale by the side of the road. I'd 30 small Tomato plants for a start and added to this Cabbage, Brussel Sprouts and Purple Broccoli. After a few hours, I'd recouped the cost of the compost (peat-free) and I could tell that passers-by were enjoying the bargains, so I went in search of more plants from those that I'd still to plant out. In came the French Beans, Mangetout, Peas and I was able to add some Strawberry runners to the mix. Honestly, I could have sold twice as much - maybe next year! The highlight was on the first day when I was in the kitchen writing up the ... Read Full Story >>

What a lovely surprise it is when you get a 'kind cup' :-)
We congratulated the staff on the wonderful service and beautiful atmosphere. We love visiting this cafe in the garden centre. These cups are a great addition to the place, our 'kind' of place :-)
We left a few kind cards and a small tip as well.
