Unexpected Kindness
Unexpected Kindness
I live with my wife's niece and her husband. They had guest for dinner yesterday May 23rd. Due to my hearing problem, I do not sit with them. After dinner, niece's husband asked me to meet them. I am grateful to him. I grabbed this unexpected kindness opportunity. I told them how a quote card changed Fatemah's life. I also told them intense positivity story where doctors had no hope for brain dead husband. His wife showed unwavering faith in God that saved his life.
I rewarded the guests with a bunch of quote cards to share with others and Gujarati Positivity booklets that I have given away close to 800. I also gave 4 other books, Utthan-Umang handkerchiefs, handmade Birthday cards and a cotton purse.
I am thankful to Sri Sathya Sai Baba for sending opportunities on my way and helping and guiding me to manifest them. I am just His instrument in this regard.

Kindness Through Knitting Together
On Monday, I slipped into the communal lounge to speak to someone. Mary who gave me the pattern for the lovie approached me and asked if I had any toy stuffing. She had nearly finished a lovie herself and had run out of the stuffing. I told her I would bring her bag when I joined the knitting group on Tuesday.
Yesterday, I took a bag of stuffing down for her. One of the other ladies was also finishing a lovie so I said I would go back up to my flat and bring some more down. As I was about to depart, I asked Mary if a teddy and an octopus would be of any use at the hospital and she said it would be. Along with a bag of stuffing I came down with the teddy and the octopus. Mary thought they were lovely.
I'm so glad I've been able to help in this way.

Clafoutis For Neighbor
Earlier I posted about my neighbours who have kindly allowed us to harvest their cherries. I've finally managed to process them all this afternoon and they're now safely stashed in my freezer for later use. Not before I made three clafoutis though - one for the neighbours as a thank you, one for my son to take when he visits friends, and one to eat all myself π€ I've made sure that the two I'm gifting are sent with a carton of cream. Yum!

Flower For The Mail Carrier
We have a wonderful mail carrier who always sports a plastic flower behind her ear. The other day I left a rose for her clipped to the mailbox but she had not taken it. (I'm usually not at home when she delivers our mail) Today I had a small orchid flower that made me think of her and I again clipped it to the mailbox and left a little note that it was for her. Today I happened to be home when I heard the mail being dropped in-so I rushed to the door and I saw her and said please take this flower--it's for you! She was so happy and I asked her if she saw the rose the other day--I said it was for her....she said that she didn't know so she just took a picture of it. I said if there's anything clipped here, it's always for you! (but I'll make sure to leave a note) She took the orchid flower and said "you'll never know how much this means to me"..... WOW. My heart feels so happy and light.

Birthday Gift To An Organizer
A few weeks ago, I discovered that Rachel who organises the activities within the building celebrates her birthday on the same day as me. I decided I would make something for her and I knitted one of the bags that I've shown before. I put a panel on the back and knitted a belt to thread through it. When I put the bag and strap together, I realised she could either put it round her waist or tie the ends of the belt together and put it over her shoulders.
On Tuesday she mentioned she would be on holiday next week which includes our birthday. She was running a quiz yesterday so before it started I went into the main lounge and found her to give the present in a giftbag. She was pleased and kept telling me I was so kind. I said she could open it when she wanted and she said she would keep it for her birthday.
The picture shows the back and front before I put it together with the belt.

Cherry Pitter Gift
I'm sure you're all bored by my cherry endeavours now, but one last cherry story! My son has returned from his event with an empty dessert dish and a request for another dessert to be sent to the event he is attending this coming weekend. He has also come home with a cherry pitter that his friend gifted me to help with the processing work! I'm very touched that she thought of me (though I don't doubt some self-interest was also at work as more cherries processed probably means more baked gifts!).
I'll pop into the local restaurant later and see if they have a few takeaway dishes I can purchase, and when I do the dessert for the weekend I'll do her a couple for her freezer at the same time. I'm not a natural cook, so this is quite a novelty π

Cherry Harvest
We lost all our trees in the fire last year. Knowing this, a couple who live in the village (which survived the fire) have invited us to harvest the cherries from the tree close to their house. Cherries are absolutely my favourite fruit and I'm in my element processing them to preserve for future goodies. My partner did some small tasks for them yesterday while we were there, as they're getting older themselves. It's a lovely trade.

Kindness During Auto RideYesterday
Kindness During Auto Ride
Yesterday, my auto driver was wearing the same cap I was wearing. When I showed him mine telling we have the same cap, his face lit up with a beautiful smile. He felt appreciated.,
I told him Fatemah and intense positive thinking story and my experiences
I cracked several jokes with him. I saw his smiling face every time in the rear mirror.
I rewarded him with some quote cards and bookmarks.

Giving Ride
A small help to an old man!
Yesterday, I saw an old man standing at the corner of the street under the sunny weather looking tired and helpless. I asked him what happened, he said need to go to their home but he couldn't walk more on foot. And there is no public vehicle. I said don't worry, I will drop you to your home. And he sat on bike and I dropped him to his home safely. He was looking very happy and gave me so many blessings and thanks. I had to ride my bike 10 mile extra to drop him off. But I enjoyed his company and felt happy.
Thanks to him..

While Waiting For My appointment
While waiting for my medical appt yesterday, I gave a small cheerful girl a peace dove from my Mindy stash in my backpack. When I was in the interior waiting area, a woman asked if I was the one who gave an origami (we were all in gowns so everyone looked alike.) I said yes, and she told me her grandson does origami. She also took a dove. I gave one to the technician as well. It was a fruitful kindness experience.
(Columbine from my garden that bloomed despite the recent freeze.)

Knitting And Bonding
Yesterday, I was at the knitting group in the communal lounge. One of the other members asked me about the pattern for the little comforter for premature babies. As a result we began talking to each other and discovered we have a lot in common as she was born in a town close to where I was born. Rachel who organises the activities has the same birthday as me, so I'm busy knitting a bag for her and when it's finished I'll post a picture here. This is the next comforter I've knitted and another one is on the way.

Being Honest About Accident
OH! Another thing that happened at my appointment: I tapped a bumper of a big truck as I parked (nerves) but didn’t have paper to leave a note. My car is orange and I saw a bit of orange on the bumper. I got some paper at the desk and when I went back. The driver was there so I spoke to him. He got out and looked at his bumper and said it was rust, not my paint. He mentioned how nice it was that I made the effort to let him know. (here’s an orange on a tree from a trip to Arizona last December)

Put Insects Outside
There was a very scary (but harmless) multi-legged insect in my sink this morning. I could see that he/she was trapped and couldn't get out. I offered a paper towel to climb on. He/she accepted and I placed them outside in my blueberry bush. It's a beautiful thing to recognize that a small life doesn't mean it's not an important life. You do not have to kill insects and that's something we need to share. :)

Comfort In Knit Cat
A couple of weeks ago, a friend bought me 'Your Crochet and Knitting' magazine and there was a knitting pattern for Gerri the Ginger Cat and I began knitting it. I finished it yesterday and asked my sister if she would like the soft toy. Her beloved cat of 17 years died a few months ago and she still misses him. She would love Gerri so I'm going to send her to her. She has her own backpack too. See the picture of front and back.

Offering Extra Change
Today, again, I offered extra change at the store to share forward with someone else who maybe could use the added peace in their life. I often try to do this with pennies, and recently, I started doing it with nickels, too. Earlier this week, I recall offering all my change that I was given.
Where I live, I observe people in varied states of health condition and consequential abilities that affect day to day functionality. This locally-owned store is near a bus station and has many varied customers and I've received confirmation from cashiers that it's helpful for people with needing bags that cost 5 cents because they do not have a reusable bag of their own, for instance.

Caring For Birds in Flight
I may have been singled out as KindSpring Community Member of the Week, everyone on this site deserves a mention as well. Everyone does something to make life easier for another person: A smile, a hug, a cheerful greeting.
Recently, I was able to secure some needed household items for a consortium of churches that aids the migrant community. Needs have changed over several years and while I cannot assist in some ways, I have been able search out some bargains for needed items and donate monetarily. This weekend the postal service has a "fill the bag" food drive. I purchased a number of non-perishable items and will place the bag on my front porch for postal pick-up. Distribution stays in our community. I live in an urban, but high intensity bird migration area. Big flyover tonight. I do my best to turn off outdoor lights, close window coverings and encourage my neighbors to do the same to protect birds in flight from hitting glass windows. We all do what we can in whatever way that we can. We are all Community Members of the Week.......every week.

Babies gifted with blankets
πΆπ» Babies, Babies & More Babies!
As our contractor was leaving, after finishing up a big repair job that took 3 days, I learned he became a grandfather three times since the last time he did work for us last year. He now has 3 grandchildren all under 6 months of age (one is a new born).
π§Ά So guess who got excited & offered to crochet baby blankets for them all, lol.
So that makes 5 baby blankets on my to-do list (2 other babies of other friends are due in October & November). One blanket is almost finished ππ» I told him I’d call him when the blankets are ready π
Off to order more yarn π§Ά!!
What a blessing this is for me….I love to crochet. It is a blissful calm π
