Stories of Kindness from Around the World

Friendliness

I recently sold a few items that I don't use any more to one of the collectors in a local flea market. He was very honest and fair. It was useful to have some extra cash for home repairs. He had mentioned he was interested in a cool box I also had but I could not give it to him since it was in another storage in the city. A few weeks later I organised the room and remembered he said he would use it for his guinea pigs so I brought it to give it to him. I called him and told him, when he offered to pay for it I said he didn't need to. He showed up to collect it and to my surprise, he was carrying this gorgeous flowers with him. How very kind is this?!

On my way back I met a neighbour who offered to help me in the garden, I mentioned my gardener is now too expensive and I need to find another. It'll be good to do some of it together and enjoy the sunshine when it comes :-)

Drawings

I've been very busy the last couple of weeks but it's a good busyness as it's part of being in a new community. I finished the teddy yesterday and the drawing is a work in process. I'm not sure where both of them will go; however, I am planning to share a meditation with a member of my new church community so we can make it available for others.

The Local Pub For Volunteering And Connecting

The local pub, now run by volunteers who are from the village is finally open. What a super day we had. I start my shifts next week and I very much look forward to it. It's heart warming to see how many people are helping to get it going and turn it into a beautiful place for the community to gather. It'll have the Cafe (where I'll be helping) and be open during the day for all sorts of activities. Another chance to be part of the community and connect.
One of the team members has been entertaining us with the photos generated with AI :-)

Longtime Friends

Longtime friends will be coming over the end of March to help celebrate my husband’s 80th birthday. They are coming with their son (whom we’ve known since he was born) & his just turned 2 daughter. So I ordered this little toddler chair, shown in this picture, so she’ll have a place to sit & they can take it home with them.

🐶 I also have a little stuffed dog to give her. They tell me she loves stuffed animals and she hugs hers & talks to them :)))

We have been friends for over 50 years. Looking forward to being together. ❤️

Wildfire Update

Dear KindSpring friends, thank you for your thoughts, prayers and concern during the ongoing wildland Qury Fire in the southern Black Hills of South Dakota, USA that began Thursday afternoon, March 12th, 2026. Excerpt from🔥Daily Update for March 19, 2026🔥: “Cause: Under Investigation Size: 9,161 acres (14.32 miles) Containment: 44% Personnel: ~328 Current Situation: Containment lines are holding, but the interior of the fire is still burning. Donating More Knitting

I joined the knit and natter group that meets in the communal lounge of our block of flats. Rachel who is employed to provide activities for the residents was unavailable yesterday. Undaunted, I took a project that is near completion and chatted to the other residents who joined me.

About half way through, Julie the Health Care Manager popped in. She asked if I was enjoying knitting and whether I'd made some of the knitted objects which were part of a fund raiser. I said I was enjoying knitting but I hadn't made the knitted objects she mentioned. I told her I was in the process of finishing a soft toy which I began before I moved in. 'That's a shame, it would have been good to put it in the fund raiser.' I looked in my bag and found a knitted bag, I made a while ago and hadn't donated anywhere. I offered her that and she was very pleased.

Firewood

We all have a friend who hasn't got it together, right? I have a friend like that, who never has firewood come winter. Firewood costs either money or effort and when it's cold or rainy I'm not inclined to give mine away. I've come with a plan. I've now finished collecting all the litter in my immediate vicinity on my morning walks, so I've switched to filling my bag with pieces of wood. We've had woodies in recently clearing land so there are loads of small pieces they couldn't be bothered with there for the taking. I figure that if I collect a bag each time I walk, by the time next winter comes around I'll have enough that I'll feel more enthusiastic about giving it away.

Trailer Loaned

Our own trailer wasn't ready this weekend, so the guy who is building it loaned us one of his own. When we loaded up to come home we discovered that the electrics on it weren't working properly - dangerous and fineable if we were stopped. No electricity at the track and getting dark. One of the guys there opened up a garage space he had access to and allowed us to make the repairs there, lending us tools and good spirits until we were finally able to set off home. Very grateful indeed that he was willing to stay with us so late on a Saturday night when I'm sure he had other things to do.

Giving Movie Coupons To Strangers

I had some coupons for the movie theatre that would expire on March 31/2026.

Two were Buy One Adult Movie Admission, Get Second for Free. And one was for a free pop (soda) with popcorn purchase.

I was not going to use them, and did not want them to go to waste, so I went to a theatre and waited to offer them to strangers who were going to see a movie.

I was able to give them all out.

Was in the grocery store yesterday and a woman asked me if I could get something from the top shelf for her. She apologized for the inconvenience, but I told her "no inconvenience at all, I'm happy to help" :)

Was away last week for a conference; when I got home I hand wrote and sent "thank you" notes to a handful of the doctors I work with, thanking them for their help and guidance. Nothing like receiving a hand-written note!
