Supporting Environmental Projects
hen the repayments come in at the end of the month from lendwithcare - I usually find I have enough funds to lend to four more people or groups. Today was no exception and I immediately lent the minimum amount to a lady entrepreneur who was expanding her farm to help with her family. Then I noticed four groups of people who wanted loans for solar panels. I decided as it is my birthday in the coming week, I would make a loan to all four groups using some of my birthday money as well as the credit I already had. I'm really glad when I can support environmental projects especially when it helps them to improve and help their own community.

Birthday Gifts
gifted cupcakes on my birthday to the therapists I work with. I comforted a friend who was anguished over circumstances in his life. Chattered with the squirrels in my front yard...thank TH for that inspiration. I started putting together a basket of bracelets and peace doves to leave at the YMCA for people to take one. Gave a good friend a load of asiago chibatta bread

Birthday Festivity
ur foreign language teacher's birthday was yesterday. She is such a lovely person and I wanted to do something to help her celebrate. I baked an apple tart with heirloom apples purchased from the farmer's market. It was the first time that I made this recipe and it was hit all the way around. One more happy celebration for her!

Twice Is Nice KindnessI ...
wice Is Nice Kindness I celebrated November 30, my father's Birthday and December 1st my brother's Birthday by giving away Groceries, slippers, T-Shirts, pants, biscuits packets and milk to needy people. Shopping Kindness image posted yesterday shows some items, but not the groceries. On November 30, I gave stuff in Navrangpura. I live in that region of Ahmedabad. On December 1st, my divine sister, her husband and son took me to Thaltej town about half an hour drive by rikshaw. All the needy people were thankful to us. I went there for the first time. We bought groceries in Navrangpura and took them with us. I am grateful to my Divine sister and her family. Birthday Cake
are so much more blessed to give than those who receive from us. I have a friend who lives in Nigeria. A mother of four beautiful girls who I met online. We chat often. Have never met. But she is a fellow sister in Christ of mine. A year ago I made the decision to give to her whenever I can. She never once asked for money but wept when I offered to buy her children a cake every year for their birthday. This is such an extravagant treat for them. A cake. Something which my boys receive yearly. She sent me this photo of her daughter with the cake. And get this ... she took the cake to her daughter's school and church group so she could share with others who are underprivileged.

Kindness On The Ground And In The Air
three quote cards to a lady seated near me. I give them with firm understanding and remembering that God residing in me is giving to the God residing in others. I showed and gave fer the quote card that changed Fatemah's life for the better. I talked to her about KindSpring. org and told her intense positive thinking story. She was listening to me with interest. I rewarded her with a homemade birthday card and gave her some more cards to share with others. I was guessing that a lady would occupy the seat near me in the plane. My positivity found its way. I welcomed her with a smile. She reciprocated the same. I gave her quote cards and told her Fatemah story, intense positive thinking story and talked about beautiful website KindSpring.org and encouraged her to visit it. I as

PB&J On MLK's Birthday!
here they were; three people yearning to connect with the folks who live in Woodruff Park in downtown Atlanta. They chose an interesting day--grey, overcast, cold, rainy but something in their souls stirred them to connect with people whose faces we try not to see, whose lives and circumstances would make us cry and ask why in a world of full of so much surplus do so many have to go without? So, they set off--the three musketeers hell bent on providing some hot chocolate and pb & j sandwiches. In the week before, rapid email fire was sent between anywhere between 2 and 5 people--different ideas were thrown about, flying kites with kids in honor of India's National Kite Flying Day or making home baked cookies to hand out. In the end, we always come back to the basics--mouth watering hot

$100.00 Gifts!
fter services one Sunday at our local church, my husband and I went into the nursery to pick up our baby daughter. A woman was standing at the door of the nursery handing out small envelopes. I assumed it was some kind of an invitation to a birthday party or baby shower so I didn't open it until we were at our car. Inside the card was a $100.00 bill and a little note, but no hint of who gave the money. After I thought about it for a while, I realized that those who had received the money were parents with young children. To this day I have no idea who did this act of kindness.

Bracelet From A Child
was waiting at the doctor’s office with my infant son. A little girl came up several times to talk to me. I looked down and saw that the girl had three bright and shiny bracelets on her. I said, ‘Oh, what lovely bracelets.’ The girl grinned from ear to ear and said they were a birthday present from her mother. She then took one of them off and handed it to me. At first I thought, “Oh, I can’t accept this from such a little girl.” But what would I be saying to the little girl if I refused her generosity? So I took the bracelet, thanking the little girl profusely. The child skipped off, obviously thrilled that her gift had been received with such pleasure. For weeks afterward, I always made sure I had the bracelet on as I left the house, to

Three Important Things
permission. Unties you like a shoelace yes that easily and makes you cherish this flawed world with all the helplessness of deep gratitude. And it is Kindness that whirls you like a dervish away from cynicism and other disguises of disappointment. A lady with a black umbrella and a very starched white cotton sari stops on a tree-shaded street to give you an armful of dahlias- and no it’s not your birthday- and no you don’t really know her. Kindness that cannot be explained and will not be reasoned out because it is its own cause. And today I want to talk about Kindness. Because Kindness is an excuse to believe in ourselves and our world. And in the end it is Kindness that matters.

Talking To The Homeless
really nice to meet her and wished her all the best. I left feeling really sad and frustrated that there was nothing I could do to alleviate her situation. I have spoken to a few other homeless people and I have heard about how difficult it is to get a place in a shelter, or sometimes how some shelters can be so unsafe that it is better for them to sleep on the streets. I was on my way to buy a birthday present for my niece and while buying the present I thought about the lady I had just met and other homeless people I have spoken to. I thought about how frustrating it must be not to be able to experience so many of the day to day things that I and many others take for granted...a roof over our heads, a bed to sleep in, money to buy food and even money to buy presents fo

Anonymous Flowers Never Fail
might of sent the bouquet, they think about all the people in their lives who care about them. The first time I did this, the intent was just to make the man smile and yet I did not want to send the wrong message so I did not sign the card. He was an older man at work, widowed and his family was somewhat estranged. He had always been kind to me and helped me through my initial years. It was his birthday and I just wanted him to know he was thought about. The result of not signing the card was an unexpected joy. The whole office (over 300 people) buzzed about his flowers as everyone tried to find out the sender. This made him feel special and then, as he would try to think of people who would have sent them, he would light up. He made contacts he had been putting off for

Secret Valentine
n my 20's I lived with a roommate for over seven years. She never dated nor had a boy friend (though she had one all through high school). I felt bad since I was going steady for most of the time we lived together and knew she'd get sad at times, having no special guy to celebrate and share with and have it reciprocated. I am a big believer is celebrating birthday, holidays, giving gifts, sending cards, smiling at strangers, saying thank-you, counting your blessings & giving to charity. I became inspired after reading Randam Acts of Kindness. Anyhow, we both love chocolates .. I mean the "really, good stuff" that is so expensive. When I moved out with my fiance, I decided to become her Secret Valentine. Every Valentine's Eve, I would place a different ch

We Made A Difference Through Our Day Of Giving!!!!
backpacks, tote bags, duffle bags and supplies; some of boys and others for girls. Our goal was to decorate as many bags as possible which others would be filling with a toilet bag, some toys, clothes, etc for children in shelters who had to leave home suddenly with nothing but th clothes they wore due to abusive situations at home. Third project was a table to make cards; all types like birthday, get well, sympathy, inspirational, thinking of you, to name a few. Colored construction paper, crayons, magic markers, stencils, stick-up's and more were available at the table. Everyone was to decorate as many cards as we wanted. One gal wrote in script and others shared some poems or prose to write inside. These cards were slotted for hospitals, nursing homes,

The Kindness Touch
listening...I did not interupt them and looked in each ones eyes as we spoke. *I hugged, kissed, squeezed hands, patted shoulder , arm or head. I bent down and touched the ones in wheel chairs, with breathing equipment, with Dementia or Alzheimers- they were most surprised and pleased ( I did ask permission first). *Mom & I baked muffins and left these goodies out with the AM newspapers *We sent birthday cards to a staff member and a few residents to wish them well and acknowledge their special day. *We also sent a reply to the Dining Room Master Chef on a dish we particularly liked stating "Great Job!". She was pleased as most comments are complaints. One older woman; stooped, shoulders hunched with sad, brown eyes was entering the dining roo

Miracle Man's Wedding Proposal
hree events, five hours. That was my Saturday evening schedule. It would've been nice to thoroughly enjoy one event, but how can you pick between a high school friend's first baby shower, cousin's i-am-turning-five birthday party, and a suprise proposal between two friends who met at your house?!? So my wife and I zoomed in Fred's beamer, from Milpitas to Santa Clara to San Francisco, and the excitement was building as we landed at Buca di Bepo at 7PM. We had no idea what the evening would hold. The plan was for Pete to propose to Linda, and bring her to a restaurant where Pete had gathered their closest friends, including Linda's four-grade classmate whom he had flown in from Salt Lake City! And it was executed perfectly. Pete had taken Linda to the spot of their first date

Offer to share your cab from the train station on a rainy evening. May: If you come across a funny childhood picture of you and your brother, send him a framed copy. If you're out of gift ideas for a friend's birthday, making her favorite dessert will always trump a gift certificate. Daniel Hilcke's Bike
all of you. Hope it makes your day as it has made mine. :) Hello, my name is Daniel Hilcke. One day I was riding home from church, and I saw a young child that was crying; his bicycle had just been run over by a car, and the car had sped away. I remembered the pay it forward idea, and decided to give him my bike, which i just got for my birthday, from my grandmother just before she passed away. I told him about the pay it forward idea, and about a week later, he was in

Sidewalk Slippers
while back I gave my father a pair of slippers for his birthday. He was always a hard worker and I thought it would be nice for him to have a pair of comfortable shoes to put on when he came home. I was saddened, though, when we saw that they were too small. I told him I would take them back for a larger size. He told me not to worry about it because I had painted him a picture and that was what he cherished the most. Then, he wondered if my husband could use them; but alas, they were too big for him. "Who could use these?" I asked myself. Then I got an idea! I went outside and placed them on the sidewalk. I went back and sat on our enclosed porch to watch who would get them. It was rather entertaining when a man came walking along -- he stop

How A Bookstore Can Change Your Life
your life, a bookstore can utterly transform it. In my case, I found one, or perhaps it found me, at a critical juncture when I was turning my back on everything I had known. It was a damp January day in 2000 when I discovered the Shakespeare and Company bookstore in Paris. I had left my home in Canada a month earlier, having burned out in my job as a newspaper reporter. I was approaching my 29th birthday, had little money and even less idea what to do with myself. When I saw the bookstore, just across the Seine river from Notre Dame cathedral, I went in to look for a used paperback. I found much more. Shakespeare and Company turned out to be a surreal cross between a left-wing bookstore and a utopian commune. The owner, George Whitman, practises a type of simple Marxism and fou

The Curse Of Blessings
purpose in life and the one source from which all blessings flow. He had long since realized he was not the source but only the conduit, and even that realization was welcomed with a blessing that sustained him for yet another day. As he approached the age of one hundred and twenty, he considered that his life was long enough. Even the great saints had not lived longer. On his birthday, he made a conscious decision to utter no new blessing and allow his life to come to an end. Still he could recite old blessings and throughout the day he reviewed them, all the blessings for his body and his possessions, for relationships that spread throughout the world, for the awesome beauty and balance of creation, and for the deep resonance, the pulse of purpose that p

The Best Hug I've Ever Had
hen I was 9, my sister, two other friends and I used to go to local nursing homes to sing for the elderly on Sunday afternoons. One Sunday we went to see the elderly and a little lady was having her 102nd birthday party. The staff told us we had to leave because of the party. The lady immediately said, "Oh no. They are here to entertain my guests." I'll never forget how important I felt that day -- entertaining her and her guests on her special day. A few months later she passed away. Bless her heart for including us in such a glorious time. When we had finished singing that day, she insisted we have a big piece of cake and punch. Then she gathered us each in her arms and hugged us. I think that might have bee

A Friendship I Treasure
that my husband and I could stay. Marcie has taken our family to many different places and all this time she has never asked us to repay her, although we try when we can, and never has made us feel like she was giving us pity, only love. I told her to visit this site -- I knew she would like to read all the good stories of kindness because she gives it all the time. Recently I celebrated my 37th birthday and, as usual, she made it special. But this time, she really went that extra mile. She gave me an ornament to hang on our tree this Christmas that says "Merry Christmas from heaven" with my Dad's name engraved on the back. She knew, without me even telling her, that the holildays are so hard for our family. That gift was just what I needed to remind

Being Helped, And Helpful
s part of her birthday treat I took my wife, Julie, to see Carmen at the Glasgow Concert Hall last night. We had a good night, but that's another story. When the show finished everyone stood and made their way to the exits. The place was busy and the crowd moved slowly. I became aware of a door being held open so we could pass through and an annoyed voice saying, "Why are you holding the door for people?" Through the crowd I saw two women, the one holding the door and the one being annoyed with her. "She's being kind," I said, "doing a good deed." "Oh, I know," said the exasperated woman." That's when I saw that the woman holding the door was also leaning heavily on two crutches. Her friend was trying to help her walk through the crowd, wanting to take care of her, but the

A Smile In A Pocket
received my first pack of smile cards not long ago. I had bought some clothes for my granddaughter for her birthday and one pair of capris I got for her was too small. A short time later, she gave them back to me. There happens to be an adorable young girl in my church whom I thought would be a good fit for these capris. So, I put a smile card in the pocket (sticking out a little), folded the capris up, put them into a bag, and wrote her name on the pant's tag so she could see it through the bag. I brought it into church inside a white bag so no one could see what I was carrying because I wanted it to be anonymous. During "Meet & Greet" while everyone was walking around greeting each other, I took the plastic bag out of the whit
