Stories of Kindness from Around the World

Give What You Can

I made extra for dinner and brought it to sister and her husband. She has Rheumatic arthritis and he is battling cancer (and doing very well). I was being extra careful, so I rang the bell 🔔 and left !!!

Sister has a very strong devotion to Mother Mary, so I decided to give her the Lady of Guadalupe print that we had gotten on our recent vacation to Mexico. Her husband texted and said that she loved the print ❤️.
Give what you can, my friends. Encourage and support 🙏

Cake Anyone? :))

🎂 Sunday is my husband’s birthday. I wanted to surprise him with a birthday cake, but since we are “sheltering at home” I can’t go out to the bakery. So I just thought it would be a nice surprise for him and “lighten” what’s going on with all the pandemic concern going on around us. I texted my neighbor and asked her if she might be able to pick one up for me, but only if she went shopping for herself before Sunday, not to make a special trip for it. (She is younger than the 70 and over mandated shelter-at-home folk and does go out to shop.) This was her reply: “Of course! He must have a cake 🎂” When I mentioned about the possibility bakery might be closed due to city virus regulations, she replied: “If not be sure I’ll bake him one 🎂” Good neighbors? Ours are THE BEST 😇 In case ... Read Full Story >>

Hidden gems rediscovered

There are probably many others like myself, wondering how to continue to practice and spread kindness and compassion in this extraordinary time. Many of us are confined to home, with limited ability to physically be with others. I applaud and support all who are making the effort to help curtail this pandemic by staying home and by practicing physical distancing from each other. We will get through this and any kindnesses we share will continue to ripple in the world. With that in mind here are some loving kindness practices we can do every day. Stay connected with friends and family. Use whatever technology you can to reach out. Face time people, make a real phone call, smile at your neighbors, extend your love in appropriately distanced activities. If you can go outside, do it. When walking through your neighborhood, take time to notice the beauty of this world. As I walked this ... Read Full Story >>

Moved by a Rememberance of a Sharing

❤️ I was just moved to tears & felt immediate chills during an open-hearted reveal the sweet, young, Fresh Direct delivery gal shared with me when she saw me holding a peace dove to give her, as she was about to leave. 🕊 She told me I had given her a dove & a YOU MATTER card, a while ago, during a delivery and that she still has both, hanging up where she sees them. The part that really moved me was that she had been going through a really bad time back then & she really needed that, and felt God’s hand in bringing her to our door that day, and that it was a turning point for her in her struggle.  My eyes filled with tears & I felt a chill when I heard those words. We truly never know when someone in great need is sent to cross our ... Read Full Story >>

Do What You Can

I passed around a note to all of my elderly neighbors with my phone number just in case they needed anything. One asked for soap and I was able to fulfill that need.

I offered our houseboat to a friend with a young child who is recovering from a heart transplant last year (very low immunity) and to another friend who has been furloughed and has a young family whose wife serves on the front-line as a nurse.

Sometimes all that I can do is offer a kind word here, a friendly post there, or maybe run an errand. Just doing what I can to serve others. Keep spreading the love wonderful KindSpringers.

Supporting Neighbors and Businesses

One of my neighbours is an elderly gentleman. It is important for him to not go out, so I made him a pot of home-made soup and cheesecake, while also bringing him a bunch of blooms from the garden. He was chuffed! It looks like his wife is coming out of hospital soon, too!

I also went shopping today, taking care to use complimentary hand sanitiser before AND after shopping and standing well apart from others. One lady looked very nervous, so I took another step back and we laughed about how popular soup-making is becoming again.

Rather than raiding the shelves to hoard items, I just bought what I needed. I also bought two flower arrangements from the florist who is selling them at the supermarket. I didn't really need the flowers, but I wanted to support the florist, as they are now hard hit for business and have to close their shops until the corona virus subsides. Let's hope that is sooner than later.

I Was Touched ...

I was touched in a way that was unexpected. After we distributed our students' belongings to them, the entire staff drove around the neighborhood in a giant car parade. There were signs on our cars. We all honked. It took about 30 minutes. I got choked up three times when I realized the magnitude of what was going on. Most of our families struggle financially. Most parents don't speak English. Many had multiple jobs in order to feed their kids, but are now unemployed. As we drove through the neighborhood, families were recording the parade on their phones. They wore authentic smiles. They waved excitedly. Some had made signs for us telling the teachers that we were loved and missed. Families who had no children at our school stood outside and participated. They were all so genuinely happy that we did this for them, for this neighborhood, for the community. I had to hold ... Read Full Story >>

👨‍🍳 “Chef Andrés Turns Michelin-Starred Restaurants into Kitchens Serving Take-Out Food to Anyone Who Needs It” ~ Good News Network “For years, Chef José Andrés and his charity have been praised for feeding the world’s most vulnerable people—and now, he is turning his own 5-star restaurants into food kitchens for families who may be having trouble making ends meet during the COVID-19 outbreaks. Although Andrés announced that this restaurants will be closed to the general public until further notice, the celebrity chef did say that eight of his acclaimed Washington D.C. and New York City locations would still be serving gourmet food to out-of-work families and struggling workers. The soup kitchen employees will be asking for $7 per to-go meal, but for “those who cannot afford to pay, we will welcome as well,” Andrés added in a statement. Connecting during Shelter in Place

I took a “sheltering at home” break & sat outside for a while this afternoon in the sun with a new book. ☀️ 📚. The neighbors came out & so we all chatted, as we maintained the 6 foot distance to prevent possible virus transmission. It felt good to share a few laughs in the outdoors.

The highlight for me was observing neighbor’s goofy dog, who has an infectious joy 😊 🐶

Keeping A Open Heart

I just wanted to share how my heart has been opening up more lately, and as it does I see and feel more opportunities to give and receive kindness. I was at the store the other day, and the lady at the cash register had wild, beautiful hair. I complemented her and she just beamed. Then the young woman ahead of me in line couldn’t pay for her items, and I offered to pay for them. She declined, but when she left, the cashier thanked me for my offer. She had a huge smile on her face, and so did I, and she said, “We all need to give to each other like that. We don’t do enough of that!” I totally agreed and walked out of the store feeling so good. 😊 I also had a great connection with another cashier at Walmart recently. I was using a riding cart ... Kind Guy At The Service Center

❤️Let People Know They Are Appreciated.....

I gave my hubby a peace dove, kindness card & You Matter Card to give to the service guy at the car dealership service dept, when my hubby went to pick up our car yesterday. I had spoken with him over the phone when he had called to let us know our car was ready for pick-up, and he had the kindest manner. He called me later on the phone after hubby had given him what I sent, to thank me and said that it meant a lot to him. I told him he is a true gentleman and was appreciated. He ended his calls with “God Bless” ❤️. Such a sweet soul.

Beacon Of Kindness

In my family we are meeting the craziness of the world with kindness. We helped a panicked family get some toilet paper and water. We are still caring for our homeless friends, providing a meal tonight like we do every Tuesday night.

Our social media posts are full of love and kindness, not fear. We are helping anyone any way we can and cheerfully interacting with everyone.

May kindness shine upon you all and may you choose to be a beacon of kindness in a world that needs it desperately!

Gift-Wrapped Toilet Paper In Care Package!

Today I baked some cookies (naturally adhering to hygiene measures every step of the way!) and put some aside for my elderly neighbours.

Added some other sweet treats, vitamin C and a fancy gift-wrapped toilet roll to make up a "CARE parcel" as well as a note saying "happy to help if you need any shopping done" which I hung on their doorknob. (Where I live, people of a risk age group or with health issues are advised to stay at home).

Lots of kindness opportunities in these corona-ridden times. Stay safe everyone!

Exchanging Gifts

Several weeks ago I watched a documentary about a man who bought thousands of signs from those lacking shelter, financial capital, food, you name it. He then created an exhibit out of the signs, which traveled to different venues.

I was touched by what he did and today, as I walked out of Whole Foods, I saw Lucas holding this sign. I went up and offered him a bill. He seemed surprised at the amount.

After I gave it to him I said, "I should've asked you if I could buy your sign, but you may need it." Lucas replied, "You can have it, I can always make another one."

Rather than seeing this as something I purchased (a transaction), I view it as a gift from Lucas to me. I offered Lucas a gift expecting nothing in return, and he offered me his sign with the same heartfelt intention. Life is indeed beautiFULL and ONEderFULL once we allow it to just be, as we surrender to the greater good.

Circles Of Sharing With Neighbor

🍀 Next door neighbor just gifted us a loaf of Irish soda bread and a loaf of rye bread from our local bakery.

I had sent her this message earlier today:

“If you run out of toilet paper ring our bell. Someone anonymously sent us a good supply. 🧻”

“Give and it shall be given”. We don’t give to receive, but it does seem to come back to you, doesn’t it. ❤️

Beautiful circle of sharing on our block. Grateful 🙏

Hard Choice To Close Clinic - Right Thing To Do

The corona virus has hit home. Today I shuttered my acupuncture clinic for a period that is unknown. It could be  two or four weeks or more. It was a miserable decision for me.

People were still wanting to come in for their pain relief. I am healthy and they all seem to be, I had seated people 6 feet apart and wipe and have hand-washing orders in place. But is it worth the risk?

After watching clinic after clinic shut down, I decided to err on the side of 100% caution and to do no harm and to do my bit in helping to flatten the curve. It was the most painful act of kindness for me. I agonized over it for days. It seems so drastic to me,  but that is not what our friends in Italy would say. Stay strong, be well, my friends.

🧻 Toilet Paper Kindness! 😳

🧻 Toilet Paper Kindness 😳 Someone anonymously sent us oodles of toilet paper!! Over the past few days, three cartons from Walmart, filled with 30 roll packages arrived at our door! At first, I thought I must have ordered it, although I had no recollect of ordering from Walmart. When the second carton arrived, I thought, gee, did I order this much?! Well, today yet another Walmart carton, twice the size, arrived. At this point, I called Walmart, gave them the order number on the shipping label & asked the nice customer service guy just how much toilet paper did I order? I thought it might be a computer generated error, during this time of mayhem, & had visions of cartons of toilet paper arriving non-stop, lol. 🧻🧻🧻🧻🧻🧻🧻🧻 To make a long story less long...customer service looked up the order number & informed me this was A GIFT sent to us by someone! ... Thanking Frontline Servers

Today, since I closed my office due to the corona virus, I went into the world and shopped at three stores. The clerks looked so tired. I thanked them all for being on the front lines and serving us all so well. One was so happy to hear it and she told me how she was so weary. Some one had become angry with her for touching their purchases. I felt so bad for all the challenging issues the cashiers must deal with.
A Thank You will brighten a person's day!
