Stories of Kindness from Around the World

Compliment rampage for my co-workers

Occasionally I carpool to work, and one-day lastweek I was done for the day and the woman I ride with needed some more time. Most people had already gone home, so I decided to write compliments and Random Acts of Kindness ideas on small pieces of colorful paper and leave them in everyone's cubicles, on their mouse pad or in the corner of their monitor.

The next morning, apparently it caused quite a stir. No one knew where they came from, and I found out that one man even thought he had a secret admirer! :-)

Two Little Hearts on a Cold Morning

It was a beautiful morning, though every morning is beautiful but that morning was special. As usual I prepared myself for office, locked my room and stepped outside from my hostel, I saw two poor kids sitting under a tree, shivering and gazing at around at people. I could see the light in their eyes, smile on their faces, as they were silently watching people. I went to them and asked why they were sitting over there and where their house was. They replied in their kiddish voice that their home was nearby, and that they were sitting there because sometimes people gave them food to eat or gave them money. A chill went through my veins that in such a morning when cold breeze was flowing, in shabby clothes and shivering, their hope of getting something was still alive. I told them to stay there and went into my hostel's canteen, packed some food ... Read Full Story >>

Pensioner on the road

I was driving back home today on a two lane highway when I came upon an elder in a wheelchair wheeling himself into town down the middle of the road. As I slowed and pulled over four or five other vehicles passed him without slowing or stopping.

I got out and offered him a ride into town. I didn't expect him to say yes but he did. I drove him into town. As it turns out he is a pensioner living on the edge of town without a phone in a town with no transit.

He was heading into to get his pension cheque which isn't due to next week!  I asked if he had a ride home, he didn't so I will check on him later as it gets dark early up here.

Mindful Driving

My "December Kindness" act for today is to drive patiently and kindly. That means going slower, letting people in, giving them the benefit of the doubt, and wishing them well.. especially those who cut me off, etc. I try to do this every day but today I will be extra mindful. ♡♡♡

Birthday Donations

I messaged my Kenyan friend to wish him a 'Happy Birthday!'. He told me that instead of spending money on a party, he chose to visit a juvenile facility and spend the money on donations. He donated personal items like toilet tissue and soap which are not provided by the state.

What a tremendous way to spend a birthday!

Unexpected Kindness in a Business Meeting

Just this week, I was in a meeting with a gentleman I hold in high esteem. This is a business meeting at a retreat center and we both went out for a walk together on a cliff overlooking the ocean (lucky me, I know!) At the end of the meeting I offered him a heart pendant, a particularly unique one that was close to my own heart. He asked where it came from and when I shared that it was from a slum community in India, he asked to hear more. He seemed visibly moved by the end and took out a sum of money and asked me if I could pass it along to them. I felt very connected to him, and the community in India that it came from in that moment. It led me to ask a deeper question about who was being kind to whom in that instant. Especially in a ... The Traffic Kindness Game

Driving to school and back twice a day has just become a better experience since I started 'playing' traffic kindness. On each journey, I do as many acts of traffic kindness as I can. The difference in the way I feel about the journey is amazing! I've seen that if I stop to let someone merge into my lane, they often do the same for me further down the road!

Cold Feet

We are doing a sock drive for the homeless. The one thing that the homeless always say to me is that they need is socks. People donate clothing, shoes, jackets but never new socks. It makes sense that people do not think to donate socks.

Last night I went shopping and bought a bunch of ladies and men's socks. I will bring them in to work today with a happy heart knowing that someone's feet will soon be warm (I bought the really warm socks!). When you think about it, if your feet are really cold, you just feel horrible and cold all over. I am so thankful that my company started this drive and that we will make a lot of toes happy and warm this winter!

Sending Cheer to Get Cheerr!

Today I went to see my aunt who broke her hip and is in recovery at a rehab center. It was pouring rain and very blustery so I was delighted to find a parking space close to the entrance!

When I found her she was eating her dinner. My aunt mentioned I was her only visitor today. I was so happy that I made the time to see her. She is an important part of my life.

I took her some cards so she could send them to others who need some kindness. She really enjoyed being able to send something to another person who needed some cheer.

A priceless dollar!

My three children and I were on our way to get their hair cut for the holidays. My middle child was in tears due to a misunderstanding of sorts. We didn't have the patience to deal with her "middle child syndrome!" She's eight, shame on us I know. Anyways, we proceeded to exit the terribly lived in van and headed into the salon. (Great Clips ). She reluctantly followed us, trying to pull herself together. The rest of us entered the establishment as she was only seconds behind. An elderly gentleman had just finished with his haircut. He walked up to her, with his wife holding him up on his right side. He looked her in the eye and said, "You look sad sweetie. You are too beautiful to be sad!" My sweet baby mustered up a smile, her pink Under Armor hat complimenting her twinkling glossy hazel eyes, which never looked ... Read Full Story >>

Tis the season

I work for a program that coordinates care for the elder population and those with disabilities. Every year around this time we go to a warehouse to collect gifts to distribute around the holiday season. A youth group contacted us to inform us that they would love to meet our clients and assist in passing out gifts. They also wanted to sing for our clients, in hopes of spreading some joy this holiday season. It truly warmed my heart to know that these young folk are so dedicated to serving their community and passing along kindness.

Gratitude For A Strangers Kindness And Wit

This morning before work I hopped in my car to do a quick bagel run. When I got in my car I thought I heard something drop outside my car door, but on immediate inspection I didn't notice anything missing on me. I closed my car door and proceeded to the local bagel shop.

I realized en route that I did not have my phone and perhaps that is what I heard drop outside my car door. Following purchasing bagels, I headed home. When I parked my car I was careful to not park too close to the curb, by chance I might run over my phone.

When I got out of my car I slid my feet through the leaves that were aligned so beautifully along the curb, no phone. I rushed up through the walk thinking maybe it didn't fall, I may have left it home.

As I was about to enter my gate, on the pumpkin beside my door, was my phone. I found out later that someone on the street found it and recognized the first name stored in my phone. The first name was my landlord, she lives above me. It was a beautiful thing!!! We all know how crazy our day can be if we loose our phone!!!

The man behind the counter knew just what to do.

My sweet daughter had an epileptic seizure in a coffee shop today. It ran its course over about 20 minutes. She is always so brave and embarrassed and disorientated as the seizure comes and goes. I am so grateful to the young man at the counter who instantly brought ice water I'd requested to help her cool down. He offered help in any other way although we always just have to wait it out and speak comforting words, hold her hands, apply cold compresses, nothing more anyone else can really do. It was amazing how many people didn't have a clue what was happening. People hypnotized by their small screen devices, or deep in conversation. It was a blessing for us as my daughter hates "fuss" when this happens and people often are either just stare as they are curious about what's happening or get overly concerned, naturally. I practiced being peaceful and ... Read Full Story >>

Newcomer to Kindness

I just signed up for kindspring last night. To my great surprise this evening I read lovely notes from people in the kindspring community, found I had Karma Bucks, and then I was able to give Karma bucks and smiles away! How wonderful it feels to read all the great stories, but especially to give karma bucks away! It is cool to know that I can come home from work and be inspired to share each day through kindspring.

Kisses to say thank you

Today I had my annual mammogram exam. I know it's a thankless job but life saving. I left a SMILE card, a note and a bag of Hershey's kisses in the changing room for the technician to find. I hope it brings a smile to her face and she shares it with others. Makes me feel good to say Thank you in a fun way.

Double the Dose

I was in the Dollar Tree Store collecting gifts for children overseas who are less fortunate then we are. The program is called Christmas Shoebox.

While I was collecting the items, I overheard a couple trying to decide what was important to purchase and what they could wait on until they receive their Social Security check next month.

I had no idea they were in line right behind me. As I gathered my bags, I waited until the clerk rung up all of their items. That's when I gave the clerk the money for his items and I walked right out the door. I heard the guy ask the clerk, did she just pay for my items?

It was such a great feeling hearing how shock he felt. He ran out the door behind me and yelled, "thank you so much" God is going to bless you. I turned and yelled back, "God has already bless me. " Have a good evening!

Baby Shower For Charity

I just received an invitation to a "Baby Shower for Charity Tea" The hostess explained in her invitation that this will be just like a regular baby shower EXCEPT all gifts will be donated to a battered women's shelter. What a fun way to get together and help others at the same time. She included a list of the most needed items which included diapers, baby bottles, clothes (for babies and small children), baby wipes, baby blankets and snugglies, pajamas (for babies and children), etc.
