Stories of Kindness from Around the World

Wood For Her Heater

One day my husband and I passed by a house where we noticed an elderly woman picking up sticks from her yard. We slowed down and asked if she needed help. She told us she was picking up sticks to burn in her wood stove.

We asked around the neighborhood and was told that the man who usually delivered her wood for her stove had died. My husband and I went home and found some wood we could chop to give to her. When we took it back later that day, she was so happy. Her voice shook as she told us thanks. It made me and my husband very happy to be able to do it.

We told her we would furnish her with wood for her heater. She told us God would bless us. We told her He already does. As you can see she lives meagerly and we are going to try and help her with that also. Pray for us all. This story only goes to show that we can all do something to help someone. Thank you.

Food Bank Bliss

We were blessed with an offer from a farmer that he would donate all the greens we could pick to the food bank we spent a few hours in a garden full of collards, turnips, kale and hybrid greens. After loaded up the truck we spent the rest of the day in the community giving out fresh greens. It was a blessing all the way around.. God bless farmers and what they grow.

Lending a hand at the airport

I had arrived at the airport in plenty of time having checked in online. It was the weekend before Christmas and very very busy. I saw an elderly man looking lost pushing a lady in a wheelchair as well as a baggage trolley. I walked past at first but then knew I couldn't leave without at least asking if they needed a hand.

I pushed the baggage trolley while Ronald (the elderly man) concentrated on steering his mother in the wheel chair through the queues. I helped them through the check-in process, which took nearly an hour queuing and going to different desks and the bag drop.

They were both very grateful once we had cleared the check-in counters. I sent them on the way to the departure gates. I felt really happy that I had made their trip that much easier for taking a bit of time.

A Simple Thank You

I make it a habit to go up to a veteran,
(can be identified by wearing military hat or pins), and put my hand out to shake theirs and Thank them for all they have done for our country. One elderly man hugged me and cried in the grocery store, saying he was so touched.

A Tender Response To A Random Act of Kindness

Hello lovelies, I wanted to share this comment I received on my blog after leaving some kindness goodie bags on car windscreens at a doctor's surgery clinic over Christmas. I am in tears but it also reinforces that what we're doing can make a real difference: "Just had to let you know my story, even though it is difficult to write. I was taking my husband to surgery, and came back to find one of your gifts. At first I thought it was a parking ticket! I was getting worried as I was parked in a disabled bay, and parking is somewhat difficult ! My husband has lots of health issues and we had just gone to get him some antibiotics and steroids for a chest infection. He had been admitted to Hospital overnight on Boxing Day (December 26th), so we were already feeling a little low.  We were both moved by the gift, ... Read Full Story >>

Memorable Kindness

Today is the seventh anniversary of my Dad's death. While missing him, I am reminded of the incredible acts of kindness given to me that day.

A friend I met while waiting for my emergency cab ride home from work who prayed with me on the street. The cabby who offered to take me all the way to the hospital, rather than the parking lot where my car was, and then tried to refuse my tip.

The close family friend and minister who, while going through a loss in his own family, joined us at the hospital to give my Dad a last blessing and to share stories with us over Dad's bed. And many more.

Feeling blessed, even this many years later, for all the support that was placed in my path during that difficult time. And so very thankful.

Healing to Pay it Forward

My act of kindness today has been taking care of myself, which I seldom do. Recently I have been suffering a number of physical issues and realized that changing some things would make a big difference. As I struggled with my own physical impairments I realized I could be no good to others if things got worse. Today has been a day of good healthy decisions and the better I feel the more compelled I am to pay it forward again and again.

A kindness opportunity on the way to work

Today, a cold windy day, I saw a man holding a sign, asking for food money. I gave the man food money. I gave him my Christmas gift card from work where he could get food and drink. I told him I was rushing to work but if he needed a job, I suggested applying to the dollar store next to ours. They are hiring for cashiers.

Generosity sprinkled here and there

My Wednesday as usual: I put a special note in my high school senior's lunch (they're never too old for that!) and dropped off homemade soup for a sick neighbor. I put the newspaper in front of the door of an elderly neighbor (since it's raining heavily). I did some volunteer work with students. I wrote a letter of recommendation for a colleague. I showed appreciation for hubby with a special breakfast and I'm knitting a scarf for our niece. To top it off I dropped off and picked up a friend who needs a ride. OH and baked treats to give away! :)

A few mindfully thought of kindness acts

Yesterday's kindness acts were hospital/health/earth kindnesses.

The first was a donation of magazines to Froedtert Hospital (called first, dropped them off at info desk to distribute). Other places that may accept donations.. nursing homes, retirement communities, libraries, military troops, veteran's associations, dentist office, women/family shelters, daycares, preschools, school/family/friend magazine swaps, craigslist, freecycle.

I also dropped off unused medication at the Froedtert pharmacy. Proper disposal of unnecessary prescription medications helps keep the groundwater clean. They are a free medication disposal and drug repository site. That means they also accept certain unused, sealed medications to donate to people in need (particularly people with cancer and chronic illnesses).

A New Year's Wish For Peace

What would happen if everyone in the world practiced treating one another with kindness and love? Not at times of great turmoil and sadness and fear  but all the time.

This may be the key to harmony and peace in the world the acceptance of each of our unique beingness. The willingness to listen to each person's unique part of the song.
True peace will start with a collective agreement to be considerate of one another and the world around us. To love ourselves, others and all things around us. As one song says " Let there be peace on earth and let it begin with me."

My wish is that this new year brings a revolution of kindness and faith in the power of love. Namaste.

Movie Magic Kindness From A Cabin Guest

We travel a lot. Nothing much. Just weekends here and weekends there. We often stay in cabins and caravan parks, never anything fancy. It's always perfect for us and has everything we need. Most places come equipped with DVD players but never have any DVD's. Or if they do have a DVD library at reception, it's often very sad and poor. Which is why I had the idea recently to start collecting them. DVD's. For the past month leading up to this little getaway of ours I've searched thrift stores, second hand shops, and anywhere that sells them cheap and bought them. This morning I was able to leave a bundle with our beautiful little cabin in the bush where hopefully they will be enjoyed by many families to come. I cannot take credit for this as all these ideas come from this place. Without each of us all sharing our own kindnesses I ... Read Full Story >>

A Poem By Mindy

the kindness blessings
of our combined energies
reach past the moments
of the ever-Now
into whatever presents
of here and how.
decades and days
months and millennia
years as drops in a sea
of the eternal unfolding
ever-be.
laugh, dance and sing
tears, worries and lessons

A Picture Perfect Random act of Kindness

BLOWING A KISS- You guys inspired me yet again and I feel wonderful! Last month, I went out to develop Christmas holiday pictures while everyone snoozed. Suddenly there was a problem with the machine.

Shannon, the lady I usually see when developing class pictures (for individual photo albums!) had to come out and help me. She was grumbling a bit about staff who don't change the paper. I just listened and then we started chatting for about 10 minutes until she fixed things.

Before I left, I went to get a Thank You card.  I wrote in it about how awesome she is and how much I appreciate her help all the time. I attached the card to a bag of chocolate kisses. (I bought more and I will make those beautiful circle note/container cards which were suggested earlier). Oh! I am going to give them out everywhere!! XOXOXOXOXO

Anything helps!

I was just stopping by the grocery store yesterday when I saw a guy outside with a sign that said, "Anything helps". As I turned my car around and he was just about to pack up and leave. I asked what he needed in the store. He asked for a can of ravioli. I picked him up ravioli, spaghetti, and beef stroganoff in the car. He seemed to be appreciative when I gave them to him.

Small Kindnesses

Today I was going into the grocery store. There was an elderly lady waiting outside, sitting in a wheelchair with her groceries. I asked her if she needed a ride home. She smiled and thanked me for stopping to talk with her. She declined my offer, because her daughter was coming to pick her up. I was so surprised that what she was most grateful for was that I stopped to talk with her. She said most people don't even notice her. Sad.
