Stories of Kindness from Around the World

A Real Princess

Those of you who very kindly sent posts to my niece's little friend Elle might be interested in taking a look at this news item.

Elle has cystic fibrosis and is hoping for a double lung transplant. She has had a very tough time, health wise, and your post have been  real boosts for her. Some months ago she wrote 10 wishes for her 10th birthday, and the campaign 'Elle's Wishes' was born.

Mum's from the school, soon joined by the local community rallied together to make Elle's wishes come true. She has met celebrities and made a music video, but also raised money for cystic fibrosis research awareness and she was the 'face' of the UK organ transplant register for their Christmas campaign.

One of Elle's wishes was to have a Princess Party and that's just what was arranged for her! So if you'd like to see the little girl I've been talking and talking about and see what a determined bunch of school mum's can bring about take a look at this --VIDEO

An unforgettable moment

Sometimes there are moments in life which just capture that feeling of being so very grateful for life itself, tonight was one of those for me as I shared a very special and memorable journey with a patient and family. To see them surround her with champagne glasses in hand, toasting and celebrating her life as their tears flowed with laughter and sadness was such a joy. I will treasure this memory and take it with me in challenging times. Love really is all that matters in the end.

What Is Love?

What is love? Do we need a display of materialism to validate that we are loved? Do we need spoken words? Well of course we don't.

Today my 19 year old daughter sent me a text to say she loved me. She has a boyfriend, her first.  While this is an important milestone for her, I am so deeply touched that her love today is not exclusively for him.

I experienced even more love today on my way to the supermarket.  I noticed an elderly man tying his wife's shoelace. An act of love between two people who have spent many years together.

If you did not receive a material display of love today, try and stand back and look with fresh eyes at the unspoken, heartfelt love which really validates you every other day of the week.

This is priceless in more ways than one my dear friends. X 💓 Rose-Marie

Note to self-- how to get my kindness mojo back.

I feel like I've lost my mojo. The past few weeks have been interesting for me. That spark, although there I am sure has been hard to access.

Yet I keep reminding myself that these are the days we are to love more. Be more kind. Tests to just how serious we are!

Yes it's easy to be kind and do nice things when our moods are good and happy. But when they are not, that is a true test of our faith and love.

Today and forever how long I'm swimming in this sea of whatever it is, I choose love and I choose to be kind regardless and no matter how hard it is to do so!

Apologizing With Kindness

A few weeks ago one of you wonderful people posted an idea for anti- bullying. I took that suggestion and used it in my classroom today.

The little person who is holding the heart had laughed at one of our developmental students who had been crying. So this little guy made a heart using the letters of the other child's name for a positive message.

On the back he drew a picture of him playing kindly with the sad child. Then he went down and gave the heart to the wronged child. I was so happy that he took ownership by apologizing very sweetly. As an added bonus we had done a meditation early in the morning about compassion and sending love to others. Best lesson I taught today! As always thanks for inspiring me! XO

I am enough, and so are you

I often show my middle school students inspiring videos to start their day. I never know which ones will make a huge impact, but I know they always reach the kids on some level. I recently showed my kids THIS video, where the resounding message was "I am enough."  When the video was over, I went around our circle and had each child say out loud, "I am enough." It was amazing to see their backs straighten and their faces brighten as they affirmed this for themselves. Well, I posted about this on my Facebook page and how blessed I felt to get to work with such open-hearted, amazing kids. A friend of mine saw the post, watched the video, and felt moved. So moved, in fact, that a few days after I had posted I went to my mailbox and discovered a beautiful ring stamped with "I am enough." I instantly ... Read Full Story >>

Angels in Disguise: An anonymous story of hope.

An anonymous story of hope: "In September 1960, I woke up one morning with six hungry babies and just 75 cents in my pocket. Their father was gone. My boys ranged from three months to seven years, and their sister was two. Their Dad had never been much more than a presence they feared. Whenever they heard his tires crunch on the gravel driveway, they would scramble to hide under their beds. He did manage to give us $15 a week to buy groceries. Now that he had decided to leave, we were left with a balance of good and bad. Gracefully, there would be no more beatings, but there would be no food either. If there were a welfare system in effect in Southern Indiana at that time, I certainly knew nothing about it.  I scrubbed the kids until they looked brand new, and then put on my best homemade dress. Helping Equals Happiness!!

I had my first volunteering day today at the recovery kitchen for people battling addiction.  Everyone was so nice and appreciative with me of being there. I donated an hour and a half of my time to help feed all these incredible people that have turned their lives around, and it felt incredible! I really enjoyed spending time with them and getting to know some of them. I can't wait to go back tomorrow and lend a hand again! There is no doubt that there is good in every person, and our bad choices don't define us.  It's our determination to turn negative events into positive moments and striving to be better every day that counts. I was reminded today to not judge a book by its cover because we all deserve a read.

A Win-Win situation!

I spent some time this afternoon babysitting my neighbor's dog as she had to go out and didn't want to leave her at home. We had a chat afterwards and I spotted a book that she had, which I also have a copy of. She said she had to copy parts of it for her clients (she's a clinical psychologist) so I said she could have my brand new copy of it. I went home after a few hours of doggy cuddles, and with a block of lovely vegan chocolate as a thank you from her, and she got a new copy of the book to lend to people in need of some help. Win-win!

Bright Side of a Bad Day

My Bad Day Turned into a Kindness Festival! Looking back on yesterday I should have just crawled back into bed. Work went OK, but it was after work that everything went wrong. I went to the grocery store and picked up a pack of meat (beef cubes) and of course, it was one that the blood had to run all over my khaki pants. I went into bathroom to clean up and there was a store employee in the bathroom. She got me some seltzer water to blot on my pants. Then, I get up to register and the sugar must have gotten caught on something because it spilled all over the register belt. The cashier had another person get me another sugar and she cleaned up the belt. OK, so I thought it was over UNTIL I went out to my car. I must have left the reading lights on and had ... The Giving Plate

I have been blessed many times today. As many of you know me, I have a mentally-challenged son. Every day, including today, he thanks me: "Thank you, Mommy, for my dinner; thank you, Mommy, for buying me this juice."  He can't articulate much, but when he does, it means the world to me! Today we were extremely fortunate to have the Kindness Team at our school. I felt humbled, as they radiated so much goodness and kindness. I felt called to show them my gratitude.   So, I decided to make them a luncheon. I was thanked so many times! Then, a "Giving Plate" was presented to me filled with vegan cookies, which as a baker, I knew took a lot of time.  I was told that I was to share the treats, fill the plate, then pass it on. What an amazing concept! This plate originated in Detroit, and I ... Read Full Story >>

The wheels of kindness were turning

I caught the bus into the city tonight. I gifted the bus driver a bar of chocolate with a thank you note. After all, driving a bus is a thankless task. My hubby paid first, and when I handed her the chocolate, she said "oh, thank you, that's so sweet" and I smiled and said she was welcome.

Anyway, the bus filled up with people, and at Vic Park they changed drivers. Next minute we see the bus driver make her way down the aisle through the people standing, to thank me again and give me a big hug! Wow! A small thing for me clearly touched her heart. (Btw, I'm not usually a stranger hugger so it was big for me)

Kindness Over Negativity

I was work on the phone all morning. That can be an very arduous task. I had several opportunities to choose kindness over negativity. This technological age we live in can complicate our lives. Recognizing that it is the technology not the individuals I am dealing with made things go smoother.

Two high schools boys joined in on the kindness

As I entered the local grocery store parking lot, a mom and her two daughters were holding a sign that said, "Any help is appreciated."

It turned out that two boys from the local high school were selling baked goods nearby to raise money, so I gave the boys some money and asked if they would give the baked goods to the lady and her girls. One boy said he would match my donation and give all the goods to them. Our acts of kindness can move others to acts of kindness. Now that is powerful. :-)

A dollar's worth and so much more.

You might remember that I am putting a dollar a day in a container for the food bank. I wrote that I was taking January's money to the Food Bank. When I got there it had already closed so the baggie of money was just sitting waiting in my car. Yesterday I had to buy things in the dollar store for my class. I always chat to the young man at the till. He is not fond of the education system and as a teacher I always feel badly hearing these kind of stories. It is obvious he has some developmental and physical difficulties so I am sure school was not easy or kind to him. When he asked if I got everything I needed..I joked and said I still needed lettuce but he had everything I wanted and more! He went on to inform me that it is hard to get ... Read Full Story >>

Library Dash

Happy Face! I reserved a book I've been waiting to read and I got an email from the library to say it was ready to be picked up. I saw a man driving around the small library carpark trying to find a parking space. He headed towards the disabled carpark space, the only one that was free. He got out of his car with a pile of library books to return, and I offered to return them for him. He thanked me and jumped quickly in his car and drove off, keeping the disabled parking space free for someone that needed it.

The sweet man that calls my heart to give

I was buying some things I needed for dinner at the grocery store so that I can cook a special meal for my family.   As I was driving away, I saw out of the corner of my eye the sweet man that sometimes sits by the door at the store hoping someone will give him some change. I had already started driving, but I couldn't not go back and buy him lunch.  I do this whenever I see him, and this time would be no different.

So I went around the block and picked up a deli sandwich, a potato salad and a bottle of juice. I went back to him and gave him his lunch.  As always, his eyes sparkled with happiness and gratitude, and I left thinking that I was very fortunate to have gone at the time I went to the grocery store.  Two minutes earlier ,and I would have missed him. I look forward to the day I don't see him in that corner again because I will know he has found a way to sustain himself. In the mean time, I will keep my eyes open so I can provide a hot meal whenever I see him ❤️

Finally, This Was My Moment

Below is my story which I shared on Facebook about my act of kindness yesterday. Many of you have done this often. Yet I've never had the opportunity until yesterday.  Yesterday I was finally able to do act of kindness I have always wanted to do. This isn't an everyday ordinary kindness that you can just 'do'. It sorts of just happens. If your open to it .... After my visit with Olga yesterday I needed to pop into the supermarket quickly on my way home to grab a few things. So there I was, in the 15 items or less line, waiting to be served when I noticed a young lady in front of me.  She was quite young and had a toddler with her in a stroller. She was really struggling with and juggling her items, which is probably what drew my attention to her. So I stared, as I do ... Read Full Story >>
