Birthday Donations

messaged my Kenyan friend to wish him a 'Happy Birthday!'. He told me that instead of spending money on a party, he chose to visit a juvenile facility and spend the money on donations. He donated personal items like toilet tissue and soap which are not provided by the state. What a tremendous way to spend a birthday!

A Different Birthday Bash

e had an amazing birthday party today. Our friend who is in her early 60's has health issues and we see her fighting each day. Heavily diabetic she lost her vision, her leg was amputated and the heavy antibiotics have damaged her kidneys beyond repair so she is on dialysis 3 days a week.  In her good days she has been a dancer, singer and a happy lady. After she lost her vision and her ailments life came to a stand still. These days she has become a recluse. It was her birthday and few of her friends decided to gift her some happy moments. Ten of them gathered together with different types of foods prepared for her, somebody ferried her to her friends house where the party was to take place. She was so overwhelmed by all the love showered on her that tears of j

A Gift Of Love For Berni 2017

I love my sister Berni. She is so good to me. It's her birthday tomorrow and I wanted to gift her something special. She and her family often feature in my KindSpring posts so I made a book of some of my stories. There are 150 pages in it, including the comments to each post. I put the KindSpring logo in the header area of each page and when the book was complete, I brought it to be professionally bound. I've also included a post where I told you I was preparing a book for her birthday and asked you to wish her a happy birthday. So you're in it too!!! The spine has the words A gift of love to Berni 2017. I included a Dedication page to her and at the very back I included a large photo of her lovingly holding one of my father's caps at her son'

A New Birthday Tradition Started A Cycle Of Kindness

spent a few hours today with my younger granddaughter, Anna, in preparation of her upcoming fourth birthday. One of our missions for the day was to work together to do four acts of kindness. We watched this video together: http://www.karmatube.org/videos.php?id=7641. I saw the emotion on her face change as the feelings of the main character changed. I knew she "got it." We talked about being kind to others, I explained our "project" and set off to do some shopping. Anna loves babies and always wants to walk through the "baby aisles." She found a little outfit that she wanted to get. I told her I knew a baby it would fit and showed her a picture of her. Anna's face lit up. We purchased the outfit (on sale!) and went home to make a card to s

A Very Simple Celebration

very simple celebration! I celebrated my birthday with a tea shop's worker and his wife. Both of them work at the tea stall. They don't have any children. I just sat with them and asked them, what would they like to eat? They smiled and didn't ask for anything. They told me "just spend some time with us." After half hour, I again asked them to eat something, but they didn't ask for anything. When I forced them and said I want to give you a party, his wife smiled and said, "just bring an apple." I was surprised and asked "an apple, why only an apple? I can bring ten pieces." She replied very politely, "please bring only an apple." I went to the market and bought an apple and gave it to her. She divided it in three part

My Mom's Birthday

y mom's birthday is coming up and I've been asking her for a while what she wants. Every time I've asked, she said the same things, that she's got everything she needs, she's got her 5 kids and she's got her health. So I've decided to make her a "photo book". It is what it is: a book of photos, with whatever storyline you want to make. So I've decided I'd do one called "50 Things I Love about My Mom" (I picked 50 as that's what she's about to turn). I've been asking my siblings what they love about our mom, and I've generated quite the list. I've also found accompanying photos from our albums to go along with it. I can't wait to get it printed. Here's one from my little sister: "She ba

Cookies For The Local DJ

ne of the things I did in April was to make a batch of cookies for my local radio DJ's. A couple weeks ago one of them had a birthday so I called to wish her a happy birthday. The other DJ told me that the birthday-DJ hadn't realized that I had delivered only one plate of the goodies and took them ALL home accidentally. I told him I'd make him another batch and deliver them to his home since he lives 2 minutes walking distance from my house. Yesterday I surprised him leaving them for him and his wife. #AprilRAOK

Birthday Gift

oday I gave a surprise visit to my music teacher at his house for his birthday. And I gave him a bouquet of flowers, a card, and a pothos plant (money plant). But the treat that I received was beyond my expectations! His wife and he shared a full lunch with me of a delicious sweet dish, curry, and vegetables alongside watermelon juice. They even packed food for me for my family along with figs from their tree. I feel so grateful for their company as they are very peaceful, simple, and kind people to be with. I started to feel like it was my birthday. :)

Birthday Care Day

hen we go on walks my husband often talks about the litter he sees on the sidewalk. So on his birthday, he decided to do some clean-up. I took a picker and he held a big trash bag. Together we did litter pickup on the sidewalk near the high school. I was surprised that the bag filled up so quickly and we dumped it in the roadside trash bin and repeated the process two more times. It gave a sense of satisfaction to know that we did what we could for our Mother Earth. We thought of doing this on a regular basis; maybe once a month. Afterward, we had a nice cup of tea and enjoyed his cake. :) Every day after waking up is a birthday in some sense, and it would be so nice to practice starting with a fresh beginning and a kinder heart every day. :)

For The Footpath Children ...

or The Footpath Children ❤️ Kindness with Divine sister's Birthday celebration in mind. Recently bought school supplies, such as uniforms and slippers and gave them to the children, most of whom live on the footpath. I thought most of the students were done needing school supplies, but fortunately I was blessed with new contacts. So, I shopped for more items as shown in the image. Replaced short zippers with long ones for girl's uniforms. Sewed belts and repaired some. Sorted according to student's name for easier giving. I began giving supplies to celebrate my divine sister's birthday on September 15th, along with cookie packets, quote cards, birthday quote cards, bookmarks, and mindyjourney’s Dove message - with quotes and dov

Perfect Timing…..

️ 🎈 A surprising & perfect synchronicity happened to us yesterday as we were walking home….we had stopped to pick up birthday/Valentine’s balloons to gift our neighbor-friend, whose birthday is on Valentine’s Day. She’s been recovering from a very serious motorcycle accident a few months ago that left her with 3rd degree burns. She’s doing well in her recovery. Anyway, as we were walking, guess who pulled up in their car & offered us a ride home…yup, you guessed it…she & her husband! I smiled wide, handed her the balloons & said these are for you, Happy Birthday! A Heaven sent synchronicity, wouldn't you say! 🎈❤️

92nd Birthday Meal

ope you are all doing well today and spending Quality time with those you Love and Love you in turn. I'm still on my healthy diet and continuing to share with those less fortunate. Two days ago, I heard an Elder was having her 92nd birthday. So I prepared a large order of sweet'n sour ribs with a batch of chicken fried rice and took a plate for her, with fresh garlic bread and salad, with bottled water. I found her playing bingo at our local hall and sang Happy Birthday for her in front of the entire hall, and some even joined in. Fed two more elders and found two youngsters who had no lunch at their jobs, twenty somethings Gen Zs who thought no one was paying attention to them, boy were they ever hungry. Prepared memorial cards for one family and helped anot

Happy Celebrating

️ We invited two of our neighbor-friends to join us at our 45th anniversary celebrate at our favorite local restaurant. 🎂 Unbeknownst to them, we arranged for a birthday cake to be served at the end of the meal, to celebrate the husband’s 75th birthday, which is also this week. I knew his favorite was strawberry shortcake, so that’s what I ordered :) After a leisurely wonderful meal sharing, the waitstaff came out singing, with the cake & we all sang Happy Birthday 🎶 And then they started to sing Happy Anniversary to us :) 😊They shared some pictures I took there with their sons who live a good distance away. A good time was had by all ❤️

Donating To Greyhound Rescue On My Dog's 2nd Birthday

oday is my dog's 2nd birthday, so I donated to my favorite charity (as per her request). Molly is a greyhound and while she was fortunate to never have been forced to race, the overwhelming majority of dogs of her breed are not as lucky. Greyhound Rescue in Australia has rescued, rehabilitated, and rehomed greyhounds, so they can live the life they deserve, as the world's fastest couch potatoes. Here is their website for anyone interested in learning more about the amazing work these people do: https://greyhoundrescue.com.au/ As per the photo tax, here's a picture of the birthday girl doing what she does best :)

Gandhi Jayanti Celebration With Maanav Sadhana

andhi Jayanti Celebration with Manav Sadhna, I feel so honored to celebrate Gandhi Jayanti (Birthday of Mahatma Gandhiji) with Manav Sadhna boys, girls, staff and guests. Virenbhai who is a founder of Manav Sadhna invited me to sit beside him with honorable guests. He also honored me to light the Diya with others. Lighting the Diya denotes the beginning of the program with holy spirit. This is the best Gandhi Jayanti celebration of my life. It is itched in my heart forever with fond memories. There was a competition of quiz on Mahatma Gandhiji and Lal Bahadur Shastri - India's ex prime minister who shares Gandhiji's birthday. Author Rameshbhai Tanna was also present presiding over the quiz competition. . I gave some quote cards to visitors and staff. I also g

On My Birthday

esterday was my birthday. I was 68 and I loaned £68 to three entrepreneurs through LendWithCare as part of my birthday. On the day, we went to Durham and went round the Cathedral as we haven't been round it for a number of months. Back in 2013 we visited Durham for the day and they were creating a model of the cathedral in Lego bricks. As we were heading towards the cafe and shop I noticed a sign which invited visitors to come upstairs and see the Lego model. I told my husband I wanted to do that after we'd had a drink. We went upstairs and were amazed by the model which contains 299, 876 bricks. One of the volunteers told us the history of it being moved after we explained we had been two of the people who placed a brick. The photod don't do it justic

Happy Holidays!

ominated a colleague for a college-wide award and was so happy when we found out that she got it! She had no idea :-) Brought lunch for my office-mate who was teaching back-to-back classes all day on his birthday, and surprised him with treats from a college holiday party. Wrote "Happy Birthday" on his classroom whiteboard and told his students to wish him---and then I could hear them singing Happy Birthday to him from the next classroom---that made my day! Apparently he was very touched by the group singing to him. A former student who took my class 14 years ago is now a faculty member (assistant prof) in our department and will be starting in January---just saw him and we had a beautiful conversation and hug! He is amazing and it just made my day.

I got a nice new foot able raft to take with us and packed lunch for us. By the time we got there it was more humid which is what we wanted so the water was great not to hot or cold just right. A Firefighter's Point Of View

But to me, it was what any "human being" should do or at least offer. I know we see these people everyday asking for money and I admit it gets a little tiring after awhile, especially knowing there's a bunch of fraudsters out there just hustling money for alcohol or drugs. You had to be there to see the look in his face. To me it reminded me when I was young and my mom brought out a big birthday cake for me on my birthday, with all the candy, chocolate and goodies that we were about to eat. He was like that kid again, getting to experience a feast. And I think he felt special, like he was getting attention. Again something that I could see he hadn't experienced in a long time. Well he ended up ordering enough to fill his stomach at least 3 times over! I often think

I rushed over to her and the first thing she did was to apologize several times. I helped her gather everything up, took the extra bags firmly from her hands, and walked her to her car. She told me she was trying to hurry home to her son's thirteenth birthday party and her whole day had been "just one of those days". I helped her load the groceries, and she stopped and looked at me and just said, "Thank you so much". I smiled and said, "I am a mother of three and do you think no one has ever helped me out? I am just returning the favor." She smiled and said, "God bless you" and got in her car. I walked the row over to my van

An Unforgettable Birthday Gift

y daughter's birthday is May 29. She was 6 by then. As it was Monday, we prefered to celebrate it earlier, i.e. on Saturday 27 May. This was easier for me as I'm free on Saturdays. On Thursday the entire family was busy packing the presents and putting funny pins on them. I promised my litte princess that I would wake her up early in the morning and distribute the presents to her classmates. I woke up at 05:30. After I took a bath, I planned to wake her up ... but.... as I came out from the bathroom, I realized that an earthquake struck. I screamed to wake my husband up and asked him to carry my daughter; and ran out of our house. We were watching our house swaying from outside. It happened for just 3 minutes, but... the piano thumbled down, tiles came down, some cracks appeared

Walk For G

n September 25th was our friend G.M.’s Birthday. To some she is an embodiment of compassion. To some she is a personification of beauty, grace and dignity. To some she is a pillar of virtue and strength. And to some she is a quiet pilgrim walking her journey with as much integrity and passion as is ever seen. But to most… she is nature’s precious gift to life. My friend H had just arrived that day at my house for dinner when we found out that it was G’s birthday. I am not sure why, but ever since I heard about it… I was feeling compelled to do something for G. However, I did not want to force anything… and was sure that if the intention is heartfelt then actions will flower naturally from that space. After dinner H and I came up with an ingenious idea to do

Birthdays Are For Giving

y birthday was coming up last week and I was thinking of ways I could pay forward some kindness on the day to send good wishes out in the world.  And then on my birthday itself, right in front of my eyes, three different opportunities came up one after the other, to support my colleagues at the charity I work at in different ways. One girl decided she wanted to give back to the charity that gave her so much both as a child when she was growing up and also as an adult by employing her to deliver services to other children.  So, she's going on a trek and raising money for our charity.  She is now part of a really amazing program that works with the most at-risk young people in our area, many of whom have already been kicked out of 3 schools, carried a knife to s
