Saturday--almost 40 Days Of Sheltering In Place
essential items for the homeless--they always welcome clean blankets, water bottles, trash bags, granola bars....call and see what they can use (I called two places and was excited they could use things I had) Collect groceries from neighbors to drop off at food banks or soup kitchens "Visit" neighbors from your driveway or sidewalk (socially distance yourself) and have a chat; sing happy birthday from the street (we've done this three times already!) Gifts To My Mother In Law
love surprising people with love! It was my mother in laws birthday yesterday. And as she was working all day and as we weren't able to visit her in the evening. I decided to surprise her with balloons and all her gifts waiting on her doorstep. My mother in law LOVES gifts so rather than just buy the one I tend to buy lots of little ones. That way she feels super spoiled.

A Super Dose Of Support
ori, a sister-in-love, called the other day with some sad news. It seems as if the Chicago area family and friends have been hard hit with COVID-19 and related issues. I decided to surprise Lori with a floral arrangement for her holiday birthday, along with the hopes that the blooms will cheer her. Lori is a mothering soul, who included us in many a family get together. I know these times are especially difficult for her. She is a sister-of-my-heart who exudes LOVE with BIG HUGS, warm embraces and inclusive celebrations â¤ï¸. Bless all those who are feeling especially overwhelmed this holiday season with super doses of support and encouragement. ðŸ™

Tyden And The Turtle
y nephew Tyden and I were attending another nephew's birthday at a local amusement center. It was the kind of place were you get tickets for scoring points on the games and then cash them in for prizes. Tyden won a jackpot of tickets, so we went to cash them in and select his prizes. I was feeling nostalgic because my loved one and I had our first date at this center and had exchanged little trinkets from the showcase. I noticed a turtle and remembered my partner loves them. I asked the young man behind the counter if I could just purchase the turtle without tickets. He said unfortunately that was not an option. I decided I needed to win 350 tickets. I left Tyden at the counter to finish choosing his prize with his grandma. I bought game tokens and entered the games room w

Win-win Moment At The Bookstore
esterday, I went to the bookstore to pick up a present for my mother's upcoming birthday. I found one of the books I wanted, but not the other. When I went to pay, I asked the clerk behind the counter if I could order the second book. A lady was standing in line behind me at the checkout. The clerk said she could order the book, but would I mind if she let the lady behind me pay for her purchases first. The lady behind me said no, it was fine, she'd wait. It took nearly 15 minutes to put my order through! The lady behind me chatted amiably with us for the entire time. When it finally came time for me to pay, I placed two $10 off cards on the counter. The clerk informed me the offer was only valid for the book I was purchasing in-store and wouldn't work for

A Surprise Gift
but it had its advantages. For the most part, I very much enjoyed the people with whom I came in contact. I was working in the garden today, watering my poor plants that are very unhappy in this very hot, humid, lack-of-rain spell when a Fed-Ex truck pulled up. I had ordered nothing. The driver jumped out and said: Here are more flowers as he carried a large box of cut flowers. It's not my birthday, anniversary, etc. I asked him if he was certain that he had the correct address. I almost cried when I opened the box, saw the stunning bouquet and read the short note from a former employee. I have not seen, been in touch for well over a decade. She thanked me for whatever it was that I had done those many years ago to make HER retirement easy and "painless". I am

Caring For Our Four-Legged Friends
“Imagine” at the Hot Springs SD wild horse sanctuary, a beautiful 14000 acre wildlife refuge in the southern Black Hills. The 750 horses here are free to roam the property with little human intervention. As the summers are dry and winters harsh, they do require additional feed, hay, and water sources that are funded by sponsors such as we are. I gift this sponsorship to Mindy annually on her birthday. As we are sponsoring a horse, we were allowed to give the horse a name. Pictured below is “Imagine” when she was about 5 months old, and now about 14 months old. Isn't she beautiful!

From Laundry To Vegan Pepperoni
'm back home and spreading my birthday gift on the west coast now. Many of my acts began at home this time, with my family. Since my return yesterday I've done two loads of laundry. I rose at 6 am, made coffee for my wife, along with vegan pancakes...a recipe that I've adapted myself. I took my daughter to Chipotle. The real act of kindness here was that I did this without lecturing her about eating out too much:). And I shared my Peet's coffee reward with her. I was telling my daughter about what I'm doing and asked her what acts of kindness she thought I've done today. I was happy to hear her say, "you opened the door for me!" That was small, but given that I wasn't going through the door with her, I'll count that. And now for d

My Birthday Gift To Myself
s my 56th lap around the sun nears its completion I have chosen to borrow an idea from some on here, and others have done…complete one act of kindness for each lap. Today I completed four. This morning I opted for a small, local coffee shop, rather than the national chain. I wanted to randomly pay for someone’s coffee. Since they didn’t take cash (a covid thing) , I purchased a gift card. I gave the gift card and a Smile Card to the barista and suggested what she might do with both. Then this evening, while standing in line at WF, I noticed a young lady behind me with a few bagels. I asked if she’d let me pay for them. In a heavy German accent, she declined. I didn’t want to force it, but I told her she would really be helping me out and I explained to

arrive and I'm fortunate to be in a situation where I can be of service if even just a bit. Oh, and the wife has been begging me to make a vegan key lime dessert that she has been craving. I told her I would make it, but probably not until this weekend. However, I surprised her and made the dessert last night<3. She was delightfully surprised! We'll say that puts me at 50 kind acts for my birthday. :).

56 RAK For My Birthday And Still Counting
K, I think I just completed my 56th act of kindness: Yesterday, I offered a student my full attention during my prep period, which some teachers hold sacred to complete their own work. However, I had a student who was struggling and had lots of anxiety over the topics we were covering. I worked with her one on one for an hour, after which I think she felt more confident and relaxed. I tried to reassure her also that in the big picture, what we're doing academically and how one performs isn't all that important. And today I made a trip to my favorite vegan grocery store, where I picked up a couple of extra packages of vegan "bacon," two of which I offered as gifts to friends. We'll say that puts me at 56. Of course, this doesn't end here. Much gratitude to this

🎠An Apple For The Teacher 💻
her time and energy: teaching English, providing funds to build a kindergarten, a children’s playground, plus many other local service projects. Over the years, Cathie had gifted two computers of her own to students in need, enabling them to finish their studies and successfully graduate with higher learning degrees. We felt that karma needed to circle back around. So, for Cathie’s birthday this year, we gave her an Apple - iPad ðŸŽ!!! Grateful to be a link in the karmic circle of gratitude and for mu husband's assistance in helping Cathie set up the iPad :))).

Spreading Sunshine
during a break from his chemo in another city. We got to spend time together and that was so wonderful and precious! I also put together hygiene kits for the shelter, and spent "overtime" at the soup kitchen this weekend - I am so glad for my fellow volunteers. Then I dropped homemade choc chip cookies to another neighbor and then found out today that it was her birthday (I had no idea!). Trying to talk less and listen more.

Imagine! May’s Calendar Girl ðŸ´
he Black Hills Wild Horse Sanctuary is now open to the public by appointment only, so I called ahead about stopping by to purchase more 2022 calendars. After discovering that the Choctaw pony - Imagine, whom I sponsor annually for my birthday (and had the privilege to name) was May’s calendar girl, along with her mother Tahiyah, of course I needed to have a few more to share! “How many calendars do you want?” asked Susan, the president, and executive director of the Sanctuary? I thought for a moment, basking in the sun-drenched office, where Susan and 2 staff members were busy addressing the paperwork needed to operate the 11,000+ acres of sanctuary for hundreds of horses. Through the bank of windows, I could see a herd of horses off in the distance. &l

Thinking Of Others
've mentioned before that if I'm ordering something and by ordering over a threshold, I order something extra to pass the threshold and donate it to the Foodbank. I did that a month before Christmas and one of the items included was a box of oatbars individually wrapped, so I donated some of them and I put one in my daughter's gifts for Christmas or birthday (they are close together). The other day she told me how much she'd enjoyed it, so I ordered some more for her and the Foodbank!

Day #1 Of Kindness Challenge
they preferred journalling and then meeting once a week. I did encourage them to post on KS, so we'll see if there are any newbies:). I distributed Kindness journals yesterday, as today is the first day of the challenge. For my pay-it-forward, I wanted to make a meal for a dear soul who is going through her own journey with cancer. She has family over today, though, celebrating her brother's birthday so I've decided the kind thing to do for her would be to wait for another day. Instead, I made a couple of batches of peanut butter (speaking of which, if you'd like a jar, please pm me with your address...I'd gladly offer you one as a gift). I'm going to take some out with me and see where they land. I am also working a loaf of vegan milk bread for a friend of

Expanding Hearts On A Plane Journey
indness Journey I have a hearing problem, so my son helped me to check in my luggage at the Dulles International Airport Washington DC. I gave a birthday- quote card pack to check-in clerk. Her face brimmed with a smile, thanking me. It was my first time at the Washington DC airport, so my son asked for wheelchair to make sure I found the departure gate. The check-in clerk came out from behind the counter and requested my wheelchair to the lady managing them. I am thankful to all of them. The gate was not an easy find for me going up and down and taking train to gate. My son took the right decision to have the wheelchair. I greatly appreciate his love and concern for me. At the security check, they let me pass with my watch, belt and shoes on. At the boarding gate I s

🴠Imagine! May’s Calendar Girl!
I had forgotten to turn the calendar page over until this morning and there she was — a photo of Imagine, the filly I sponsor yearly for my birthday, along with her mother! Oh, I knew she was there, patiently waiting for the months to pass, so I could view May’s photo, but I had sort of forgotten that too, until I turned the page over. In celebration of Imagine and her mom being this month’s beauties, I’ve made a donation to the special “Nursery Needs.” 🴠“Our special needs babies (orphans, ill, or injured) have the sweetest little baby faces...but they also have some very special needs ranging from equine baby formula and "toddler" food to medication, vet visits and surgery.” — Black Hills Wild Ho

Acts In Motion
ealth and Kindness I went to get my body checkup and required tests. It is kindness to myself. I gave many quote cards, bookmarks and Birthday Quote cards to staff and patients in waiting. Cracked jokes with lab technician and doctor. Talked about the importance of positivity in our life with one young girl waiting for her turn with her parents and gave her name of the books on positivity to read. While waiting, one old lady was going out looking at me. She told me that she will have denture. I asked her, is it Okay if I pay for it? She happily nodded yes. I paid her. She paid me back smile and blessed me. Prayed for wellbeing of the patients. That is what I do daily. I also donated to the institution that provides tests and consultation at very low price. I am

Positivity found its way. I received smiles and thanks as well. After they visited doctor, I reminded her mother to think positively and forget about her condition. I received smiles. I gave some quote cards, birthday quote cards and bookmarks to patients waiting. Prayed for wellbeing of all the patients.

62 Gifts
John turned his life completely around. His story inspires me every week. His heart of service and boundless enthusiasm for learning and helping others touch my heart. I think I am up to 25 gifts (not counting the half-hours with John since March -- I think those should only count once). I have about ten half done so far and, once done, I'll be over halfway there. A gift to me For my birthday this year, John bought me Rich Roll's coffee table book. I was so touched. We found that we share the love of Rich's podcast. So this week and next on under1000skies, the theme is the Rich Roll podcast and his guests as a special thanks to John.

package of homemade food for a neighbor who has COVID and who had recent losses in his immediate family. Gave away veggies from the garden to a colleague and to another friend. Did a reference call to help a former student get a job. Connected with an old friend. Asked students to share something nice that someone did for them. Made soup for several folks with COVID. Put together an impromptu birthday celebration for two colleagues!

A Kind Gift For Our Kind Neigbor.
️Our kind neighbor who brings over her home-cooked full dinners almost every Friday is celebrating her birthday 🎂 this coming week & will also be celebrating Chanukah 🕎 later this month….. 🎁 When she comes over later today we have some gifts for both occasions waiting for her. I researched online to find gifts appropriate for her. It feels good to put time & thought into our gifts in the hopes that she will both like & be able to use what we gift her. Grateful for our kind neighbor 🙏

Surprise Ending
was the local teenage young man we met & chatted with as he was passing our home a few months ago & then returned once or twice to say hello, that I had posted about a few months ago). And right after that another surprise came in an email from our neighbor-friend who gifts us her Friday dinners..she shared a photo of herself wearing the apron & oven mitt we gifted her for her recent birthday while she was baking donuts. My heart felt like it was smiling when I saw her photo 🥰 Unexpected kindness ❤️

🎂 Celebrate By Giving 😊 .
Learned how to fold $ bills in a variety of origami models as part of our son’s birthday gift. As I hoped, upon opening the gift bag (which I had colored in memory of his beloved cat), minus the glasses, he said, “Wow! I can give these as tips.” Wanting to give, so others can give, always pushes me forward to learn 😊. *Pictured models: dove, Christmas tree, blooming heart, dog, sailboat, butterfly, airplane, ring…the hardest part was gathering enough $1 bills!
